Used to be into them up untill "Green" came out, drifted away after that.
Met them at Manchester Uni in 84 and at The International in 85.
They were a great live at that period. Nice guys to talk to as well, little story, Bill Berry sits with my mates and I after the Uni gig and we offer to buy him a beer.
He takes us up on the offer and asks for the strongest beer we can find, my mate being the sly bstard he is only goes and gets him a pint glass filled with Gold label barley wine, ever had the stuff?, it's like drinking boiling lead mixed with aviation fuel. Berry necks it and two minutes later he's talking broken biscuits!
Still remembered to put us on the guest list for Liverpool the night after though.

Used to love REM but stopped buying their stuff in the mid 90s though. Adventures in Hifi is an underrated beauty as well as their eraly lps.
Anyway, going to see Roger Waters , sounds like going to see Hugh without the Stranglers

Re: REM
Perfect Circle is such a great song. Love those early albums. It's like a different band post 91
