Yeah, why on earth would you want to be like that multi-award winning, multi-million record selling loser?

Kinks The Hard Way (1975) perhaps a big influence. Also on Capital Radio by the Clash but obviously Can't Explain by the Who came before the lot.

You know what else is jolly good?

Come on, Eileen. By Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Edited to add another one:

Salt Sweat Sugar by Jimmy Eat World. That one was a brain sticker.

Some great choices so far. I'm gonna try and focus on 1996 onwards as that seems to be lacking. Even then that's 30 years ago!

First things, first. Manics Design For Life. I cannot understate just how good this is. Surely one the the greatest songs of the last 40 years.

Strangelove - Beautiful Alone
Super Furry Animals - God, Show Me Magic
XTC - Easter Theatre (the band the Beatles could've been )
Big Country - Perfect World (remember I'm going post 96 here)
British Sea Power - No Lucifer
Ladytron - 17
The Stranglers - In Heaven She Walks
Buzzcocks - Rendezvous
Damned - Little Miss Disaster
Hugh Cornwell - One Burning Desire
Kenickie - Punka
Belle & Sebastian - Legal Man
The Fall - Touch Sensitive
Wire - 23 Years Late
Sleigh Bells - Comeback Kid
Young Knives - She's Attracted To
Tallies - Trouble
Working Mens Club - Teeth

Remember I've limited myself to 96 onwards.

Jim
