First Proper Gig Attended (Not The Stranglers).
The Stranglers was my first gig in 1980.
My first gig that was not The Stranglers was SLF in 1981 at The Birmingham Odeon.Met the band afterwards and had a neck scarf signed by all the band.Jake Burns used to wear one around that time and I was copying him by wearing one too.
Just remembered I saw U2 at Kidderminster Town Hall in 1980 around the time of Boy before they were famous and that was before SLF.

I am pretty sure it was the Damned in 97 but maybe I went to a festival or two before that. I was of the idea that bands came very infrequently to where I lived, but looking at concertarchive, there were a decent amount of good gigs, just not what was available in the UK!

My first gig was The Stranglers in Manchester, February 1983. My second gig, so the first time seeing a band play live who weren't the Stranglers, was Reading Rock Festival, in August 1983. I only went on the Friday, because I was only really interested in seeing the Stranglers, but some of the other groups were pretty good. Big Country were enjoyable, I wasn't and I'm still not into reggae so I wasn't that bothered about not seeing much of Steel Pulse before they were bottled off, and some of the earlier bands were good. Pallas I remember being good, and got an album of theirs later, I think Man were pretty good on the day, Hanoi Rocks were rubbish, Pendragon were good, I don't really remember any of the others.
Of course, looking back, I wish I'd done the weekend as I'd have seen Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Marillion, but even then, when I was young, I wouldn't have wanted to be camping in a muddy field.

Glasgow Apollo 16th of May 1975, Status Quo..

My first gig was the Stranglers but for the life of me i cant remember what the first was after that.
This is probably wrong as i really cant remember but it was about the time i saw the Clash and Siouxsie and the Banshees so maybe one of those. It might have also even been a band like The Questions
I got so addicted to live music and saw so many groups that the bands and venues all just blur together now. Most times my concert tickets help but i have lost so many of them as well it makes it hard to be 100%.

Stranglers was my "first proper gig..." after that it might have been Buzzcocks or early Manics. No idea really
- For a while I was wrapped up in my own little Stranglers world and no other bands existed.

Yeah, l was too for a long time. As lve mentioned before, in retrospect it was to the actual detriment of my gig going.theraven1979 wrote: 14 Apr 2026, 10:39 Stranglers was my "first proper gig..." after that it might have been Buzzcocks or early Manics.
