Maybe I just hear it too much on the radio but I just find it a bit annoying. Especially towards the end. Sorry!

yes those always get played a lot, I still quite like 2 of them though but teenage kicks is the one that i could never see what the big fuss was about tbh. The undertones did much better songs too, but most surprising of all was when John Peel proclaimed it to be his favourite ever song. Really? Of all the thousands of artists & songs the great man discovered, then he says that's the best one ever lol unbelievableJake wrote:I want to say something not so obvious as many of the songs here, whilst I don’t *hate* any of these songs, there are certain numbers from the 77 punk era that are so overplayed they are a chore to listen to; “Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn’t Have Fallen In Love With”, definitely “Teenage Kicks”, I don’t hate either, but would likely skip both and “Another Girl, Another Planet” I’m really not that keen on

That does happen a lot if a lead singer or respected DJ says something is there favourite song them an army of fans follow suit.aldinblack wrote: 14 Feb 2026, 19:20yes those always get played a lot, I still quite like 2 of them though but teenage kicks is the one that i could never see what the big fuss was about tbh. This is not a dig at any one on this site as the Gospel is a really a great album and i am sure the love for the album is genuine but i find it amusing that as soon as JJ and Hugh say this album is there favourite album there is indeed an army of Strangler fans echoing the same sentiments.
There is definately songs that lose its greatness over time but i totally agree about Teenage Kicks i tend to always skip this song i have never liked It but really love the undertones always have done so many songs that are so so much better.
Im glad i am not the only one that skips "Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn’t Have Fallen In Love With”
Re: Name a song you hate
I just don’t get that, Debbie Harry’s vocals were something else, there’s a good documentary about the making of Parallel Lines and the raw vocals are something else, but you know we’re all different when it comes to music tastes. On this subject, it’s actually quite hard to say music I literally hate, plenty that’s not my cup of tea though. I think it’s fair to say most love a bit of Blondie and their music has sustained and aged a lot better than othersjason wrote: 14 Feb 2026, 18:37

Re: Name a song you hate
I definitely don’t hate “Teenage Kicks” but it is one of those overplayed songs, I way prefer Ramones over The Undertones and Buzzcocks, I think they’re kind of similar bands, but Ramones were always very entertaining, maybe I find The Undertones and Buzzcocks a bit like a poor man’s version of the Ramones, I could be way off the mark there. I’m not overly familiar with a lot of Undertones material to be fair, maybe neglected on the basis of their hit single. When it comes to Buzzcocks, I like Spiral Scratch a lot, and Orgasm Addict is a great one.aldinblack wrote: 14 Feb 2026, 19:20

Yes, Peel loved that song, and it is difficult to see why he picked that as his favourite given all the music he accumulated over the years

Really.... oh ok.
One of the greatest ever composed rock songs for me of all time,I slightly rate it as you can tell lol
We all differ.
I have always thought that since I was a kid and still haven't changed my view on it today either on this genius operatic rock construction ever ,this for me was a one off and for me nothing has ever come anywhere near close to this 6 minutes of pure magic for me only.
We all differ.

I *kind of* don’t mind some of Queen, but it’s sort of love/hate for me. I rarely would actively want to listen to Queen, there’s a lot that really irritates me about their music, but at the same time I can’t help liking some of their bloody pompous but catchy songs.toilerinblack wrote: 16 Feb 2026, 20:18Really.... oh ok.

One thing I find interesting is that there was a 77 era interview with Hugh where he mentioned seeing Queen with his girlfriend at Wembley and it was shit, etc, that it was lime Queen played to themselves, where as the consensus was that even if you were at the back of the stadium Freddie was able to reach you. I do find it quite entertaining that at the beginning of his career with the stranglers Hugh was saying how crap Queen where, only for by the end of his Stranglers career they had Roy Thomas Baker, famed Queen producer in to do the album

Well Hugh is entitled to his opinion and I don't agree with him even though I adore his music lol
Full circle they end up using Queens producer yes your right there they did, even though to the many it was over produced and again I'm one of the one's in minority and I don't know why but I am lol who liked"10" so much and still does, bloody great album.
Freddie's vocals a one off
Brian May fantastic guitar work and sound like no other who with his dad constructed a fantastic homemade....guitar.Brian is so good because he used to see live every week his and my guitar idol Rory Gallagher,no wonder brain is a bloody good guitarist after always watching and admiring one of the best ever....Rory.
Queens drums sound full on and bloody excellent to me and a hell of a great bassist too,all round for me a truly one off phenomenal band who wrote song like no other before them or after them.
Re: Name a song you hate
That’s the thing Toiler, I think it’s fair to say Stranglers fans are an eclectic bunch, I probably like a lot of music that others hate. I think the stranglers encompass a lot of styles and that’s why they have attracted fans into all sorts of musictoilerinblack wrote: 16 Feb 2026, 20:49

I don’t mind Queen if in the mood, and I was quite into them as a kid long before I discovered music like The Stranglers, though at least I can say my first record was Blondie, and I never tire of them. I recognise Queen had talent, but I do find them overbearing, the one album I like is the Flash Gordon soundtrack, and that is such an excellent movie in every sense
Re: Name a song you hate
Keeping on the subject of Queen, a song that I cannot stand is “Ice, Ice, Baby”, which of course sampled “Under Pressure”, I don’t mind that one too much, I am a big Bowie fan, not his best song and a collaboration with Queen no less, but what an utterly shit song “Ice,Ice, Baby” is. Kind of says it all that Vanilla Ice was recently playing a function for the Tangerine Fascist and yeah how fitting playing “Ice, Ice, Baby” when you’ve got these ICE agents going around shooting US citizens in cold blooded assassinations, what an utter prick Vanilla Ice must be. The best that awful fascist Dictator wannabe, so called “leader of the Free World” can get to perform for him is Kid Rock, Snoop Dog and Vanilla Ice
