Dark Matters has it stood the test of time?

I Played Dark Matters a few days ago and I'm sorry to say I really don't rate it that much,a few good songs but some very average songs to,at the time I really liked it but it was really an emotional reaction to it being the last recorded work of Dave, After listening to Hugh's MOM the day after it made me realise even more that it's an average album,it's just my view,I still like Breathe,Water,Dave and Pay Day,but the rest not so my much, sorry to be negative.Major Kudu.

I like Dark Matters about as much as I did when it came out.
It's a lot better than Giants, although I miss Jet's drumming.
The Dave song is a great tribute and packs an emotional punch.
Water sounds fantastic although it's not an all-time favourite.
Pay Day is quite fun, even if it's a bit stupid here and there.
White Stallion is definitely one of the highlights and is the sort of thing I'd like them do more of if there's another album.
The rest is ok but I listen to the 80s/90s output on a much more regular basis than Dark Matters.

Define test of time

An album that still sounds good a few years after release,that you take a break from and think wow,sadly DMs fails on that level for me,whilst the first 9 Stranglers albums succeed in standing the test of time.Major Kudu.

Yes of course,the reason I did this thread is the excitement about another Stranglers album in the Future,so I thought I would revisit DMs,and sadly I found it lacking in so many ways,but as for Hugh's MOM I keep coming back to it,I haven't been totally negative about DMs,I will be open to another Stranglers album but sadly I can't see it being anything special.Major Kudu.

Maybe? But an example from another band,my second favourite Band Spear of Destiny released and album calledTontine about 5 year's ago,I played it the other day and thought fuck what a great album,and I played it every day for a week, sadly DM will now be stored away and probably not played again,see the difference.Major Kudu.

Your example is of an album released about 5 years ago, so more than twice as long ago as DM. I'll maybe give it another week or two before l pass ultimate judgement on its longevity

Still really enjoy it, not up their with their best, but top 10 IMO.
My favourite track is still ‘No Mans Land’ (would love to hear that live)
