Except it's clearly not as the first suggestion out of the whole Stranglers catalogue was indeed the right one. The meter of the vocals, the chords... it is similar.

Now that you've pointed it out and I've had another listen, I've gleaned what you and the topic starter are getting at, but it's a very subtle comparison. The meter of the vocals, yes, in a small way. The chords, not so much.
