Porcupine Tree

Post by jonimac »

Any fans on here? Just finished Steven Wilson's excellent book.
Got into them 7 or 8 years ago, when the song "Deadwing" appeared as a suggested tune by Spotify - a rare occasion of hitting the mark!
Turns out I have one degree of separation with them, from a former bandmate

SW described XTC as "my Beatles" so that was a good sign. Even their origin is from his love of The Dukes Of Stratosphear.

Two new songs are out, previewing the album coming in June.

I recommend the albums In Absentia or Deadwing as a good starting place .

Lots of challenging tunes, sometimes delicate, sometimes metal.

Something for everyone - even Killing Joke fans (that last comment was for Jetblacksdad  )

I love my prog rock probably more than most on here and I'm a huge fan of some of the remixes/remasters he's done of various prog rock classics, but I find his own music really dull.

Half of Japan, Steve Wilson and the most of nteresting drummer in years - what's not to like.

He is indeed. Even wrote the title track with Andy P on his “To The Bone” album.
He has always been labelled prog but he covers many different areas.

The two new preview songs for the album are a pretty good reflection of Porcupine Tree.
Some nice chord changes, driving metal chunks, wonderful atmospheric keyboards from Richard Barbieri, and a monster on drums, Gavin Harrison.
