New Shades of Plato album

Post by RetroRocket »

Folk here have been previously very kind and taken time to listen to our music, and even sometimes bought it and come to see us play! Your support and comments are always very appreciated.

After a long hiatus we are at last back with our second album Malware, due for release in March We have been trickling tracks out over the past year or so. With influences as varied as Stranglers (of course), Sisters of Mercy and Jethro Tull (!), we have somehow managed to garner a small group of followers from around the globe!

The album is currently being sent to what's left of the music press for review, gigs to follow soon.

I play bass and sometimes keyboards, and am thankfully never let loose anywhere near a microphone or lyric sheet!

Hear are some tasters....all comments gratefully received.

I hope you enjoy, love and respect, RR

I have just spent an evening listening and watching Shades of Plato who I'd never come across before. I think it is great especially the three new songs. The earlier album is very much a goth affair. I am not up to date with goth - all my goth gigs were a long time ago, Fields, March Voilets, Balaam, Bolshoi, Mission etc. The first album has hints of Banshees and 80s horror movies with some deep JJ inspired bass and Stephen Morris type drum sound. Very good but....the 3 new songs are great. Super lyrics especially the Sucks song. There seems to be shift from goth to a more varied palette of sounds. I can hear Bad Seeds, Hawkwind (Nik Turner) and Masters of Reality in the mix. But like all really good music, your band don't sound like imitators but have their own sound. Oddly, I can't hear the Sisters in there. I am already hooked and can't wait for he album. Do you guys and gal ever tour Manchester? Finally, as a fellow bassist, I am impressed with your playing and sound. Cheers.

Thanks so much Palais for your very kind words and feedback, so very appreciated. And thank you for taking the time to check us out!

Yes, our influences are quite varied; the bands you mention are directly and indirectly part of our DNA, as are many others. We think we have really found our own voice and sound on this album. There's a couple of tracks that I can only describe as Sisters meets Tull! We are very excited about its release.

I'm glad you like the lyrics too! I think that our singer is an intelligent and thought provoking lyricist. There will be a good old fashioned lyric booklet with the CD!

We are hoping that some good reviews will help get us decent support slots, or even the odd headline! I'll keep you informed.

Finally, thank you for the kind words about my bass playing and tone, thankfully the band love it too!

Love and respect, RR

Just ordered Malware via Amazon. Can't wait for it to arrive and be blasting it from my stereo. Looking forward to all the songs especially those bass lines! Please tour the North (or at least the Midlands). Cheers.
