New addition- John Otway is playing a free concert in St Albans this Sunday. He claims it will be his 4,990th show and is working up to playing his 5,000th at Shepherd’s Bush some time. Wanted to see him live for a while, but I can’t help thinking that once will be enough.
I can't help getting old. I just refuse to grow up.

Is it just a gig place now or have the shops returned?

I saw him play in a pub in Southampton back in the 80s with Wild Wily Barrett. A good laugh especially if you have a few drinks. Yeah , once was enough.Boody wrote: ↑09 Mar 2022, 17:22 New addition- John Otway is playing a free concert in St Albans this Sunday. Re: Who are you seeing (other than the stranglers) this year?
I've been reading some very enthusiastic reports of his recent American shows so he's clearly been relishing getting back into performing. I'm more of a fan of Beggars-era Numan than his recent period, but I do think Sacrifice, Pure and Splinter are good records. Intruder didn't really do an awful lot for me, although it's still better than Jagged (which I think is one of his worst overall) ...

I admit it. I managed to get some tickets to see Ed Sheeran at the Concorde 2 in Brighton. Holds about 600. Not my type of music but was interested to see how he would now go down in the sort of small club where he first started off.
Tbh, it blew me away. Can’t recall seeing a more talented all rounder on a stage. I’ve seen better singers, guitarists and bands, but in terms of all round musicality it was something to see. If someone said I’d be watching songs based around looping/dance/rap, I’d head for the bar- with earplugs - but somehow in a small club it just worked.
I formally apologise for mentioning the words “Ed” and “Sheeran”on this forum.

I think modern acts tend to get lumped in together as all being talentless BGT wannabees who couldn't survive without autotune, but I'm sure it doesn't apply to all of them. And that's nothing new, of course.
