I didn't like her singing much tbh

Or it might have been X-ray Spex as the whole package

Honourable mention for Debbie Harry
It was more the raw emotion and vulnerable side in her voice, I find it quite hard to listen to for that reason, I'm a bit of a softy, despite my hard reputation :smt005 joking, people seem to think I'm ard as I ride a big motorbike and wear a leather jacket sometimes, but I'm a kitten 😺, I shouldn't admit that but now we know. All great choices I said Punk and New Wave, it shows how many choices there are, it seems so many modern vocalists sound the same, the Punk and New wave period was a rich period in music, of course so was the 50s and 60s but its when I really got into music, don't get me started on Best or Fave Punk or New Wave drummer. So many more I could mention, that doesn’t even scratch the surface, I definitely prefer the artists more labelled new wave and post punk than punk, but even that can be open to interpretation. Best albums from the new wave and punk era is another one, so many greats to chose from, definitely the best era in music as far as I am concerned would be late 70s to early 80s

I love Vanian's voice in the latter years
Jaz Coleman, even when he shouts

But I think it has to be Hugh. He has a lovely rich tone and he could sing a shopping list and it would sound good to these ears

I'm surmising that you only think this because it was the music that soundtracked your younger years when you were getting to music and forming your own identity.

Well yes very true, but i admit I live in a timewarp as I only follow bands from that era and post punk like Spear of Destiny, so I concede your point. But I do like Jazz and Classical to and also electronic music, I first heard the Stranglers in 77 as my brother was a fan but only started seeing them live in 81 as I was only 13.Lt Kudu.

Howard Devoto deserves a mention. The way he can portray anger without having to shout is pretty unique to the "punk" era.
