Re: JJ and Baz together again at last.
Did a festival in Manchester years ago (Stranglers were on the bill albeit quite low down!). Anyway Stereophonics were headliners above the fucking Pixies!. I'll never forget literally half the audience heading towards the exit after the Pixies and on the way out the stewards were saying to everyone "If you leave you can''t get back in" - Try as I might though I couldn't quite get on the train in time before Stereophonics came on so we had to endure a little bit before we could fully escape.

My main objection to Stereophonics was they sounded so polished, sterile and safe - they weren't on their own for that though.

That song about his brother who killed himself "Local Boy In The Photograph" or whatever it's called. Got played to fuck at every student indie disco I attended in the 90s.

Oi, I like the first two Strangelove albums and both 60ft. Dolls albums. The first Menswear album is more fun and better than its general reputation, too. Also, the two albums Marion put out - I still like those!theraven1979 wrote: ↑05 Jul 2021, 08:25 The 90s had a crazy amount of indie bands. There was all that NWONW nonsense but it just boiled down to indie really. There were lots of 2nd division indie though. Anyone remember Strangelove, Rialto, Menswear, 60ft Dolls etc?
Jim
Agree that the 60ft. Dolls were superior to Stereophonics - they were also a much better live band! I saw Stereophonics at a festival in '99 and they were merely alright at that point (they got much worse later) but when I saw 60ft. Dolls - fuck! - the energy level of that gig was off the scale.
I'd take quite a lot of lower tier '90s indie bands over some of the lower tier '00s bands. Say what you like about Stereophonics, at least they weren't The Kooks or The Pigeon Detectives or Razorlight.
And fwiw, I liked Oasis in the '90s - pretty much the entire country did.

We seem to be going very off thread here, let me get back on thread and say it was nice to see JJ and Baz together again. Lt Kudu.
