Yeah, obviously The Stranglers are going to have more listens than Hugh due to The Stranglers having the recognisable "brand name", and Hugh not. That's a given. Also Monster - regardless of number of plays - is the stronger album. If Dark Matters had been a JJ solo album, it would have sank like a stone and everyone realises this.

yep...all it's about the brand name and you can't compare Hugh to the brand name like you say and for me Hugh no matter what the stats are for a small time solo artist he will always be my preference of the two, even though DM been bloody impressive and i really like it alot and i'am finding myself enjoying listening to the stranglers again as i did with NC the most since Hugh left.

To be fair to Hugh, Monster is a brilliant album that deserved a lot more recognition than it got. I can't wait for his next album.

Down six places to 54 this week on the Album sales chart. 4 weeks on the chart.

It got the recognition it warranted, same as any record by any artist.

What you think every album gets the recognition it deserves?

Still a very good result and much better than anything else from them or Hugh in recent years.

It doesn't work that way.

Although DM isn't in the chart any more, there was quite a presence in Chester HMV - the vinyl is in the "best sellers" display, and the CD is in a featured rack as well, not just in the "S" section.

I'm not sure DM has received that much recognition outside of the usual fan base? It hasn't exactly been overplayed on the radio, and how much of the sales are new listeners rather than existing fans buying multiple copies?

I suppose the only way to tell is if it appears on best album lists.

Apparently Water has just been played on Planet Rock and Radio Caroline have been playing Last men on the moon regularly. I think they've played White Stallion as well. Not the major stations though.
