Re: The Clash
Im not sure if that was mainly their audience or The Who’s?
A bit like Wembley 1979 for the MiB?
I have always found The Clash overrated but have made the effort to listen, particularly the London Calling album.
That has it’s moments - I love Train In Vain - but in comparison to Stranglers material of the time, it’s just not my thing.
Full respect for embracing so many musical styles but it never really worked for me.
The guys at the Great albums podcast gave it a full review, tried to explain why it is so good, and god knows I tried, but ....give me The Raven any time.
To be fair, compared to ANY album , I’d still have The Raven
I would however say that a while ago Joe Strummer’s “Coma Girl” turned up on my Spotify recommended songs and I bloody love it.

Yes Coma Girl is a great track.
Re: The Clash
There are quite a few great songs written by The Clash, but very different to The Stranglers tracks. Both deserve respect. As many other bands. Can't say that the band XX is the best one of the world. Music is more than just one band for me. I also don't eat the same meal every day.

Re: The Clash
Clash were a great band and Strummer one of the best front men there has been.
The Stranglers were different and IMHO much better.
Each to their own innit, but to call them overrated just because it's possibly trendy to wear Clash shirts is rather rich?
I bet you can guarantee though that most of those Ramones shirt wearers haven't much of a clue about the band or their output

Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.
Re: The Clash
I love The Clash.. I've posted a few gigs on here in the past.. but never this one... one of my faves, as I love Sandinista... the songs sound much better played live! Topper Headon at his peak.
This is a lesser known Bond's Casino recording from the mixing desk... I posted a different night years ago... but I recently acquired this much better gig recently... enjoy the weekend. This for me is a perfect show for the situation.... are you working for the clampdown?

Obviously discounting the time from '87 when JJ was riding a Harley, wearing Harley T-shirts and indeed wearing American inspired biker boots for a few years!Lafleur wrote: ↑09 Apr 2020, 17:01 The Clash were BIG IN AMERICA. Stadium rock...

Hugh didn't get that big success with The Stranglers. . JJ wasn't a friend of western boots and for him American people are strange or even ridiculous.
One main reason Hugh left the band...
Re: The Clash
Well said. Don't take all statements of JJ or Hugh too seriously. Someone asked something and you got an answer for the moment .dead ringer wrote: ↑10 Apr 2020, 22:37Obviously discounting the time from '87 when JJ was riding a Harley, wearing Harley T-shirts and indeed wearing American inspired biker boots for a few years!Lafleur wrote: ↑09 Apr 2020, 17:01 The Clash were BIG IN AMERICA. Love The Clash, it was always the ‘6’ for me
Stranglers
Sex Pistols
Clash
Jam
Buzzcocks
Damned
The Stranglers won of course, they just stood out from the rest of these great bands and had a weird moustachioed keyboard player which is the main reason why they are the best. Innit, Er prob not.

I think many people have a love/ hate relationship with America.dead ringer wrote: ↑10 Apr 2020, 22:37Obviously discounting the time from '87 when JJ was riding a Harley, wearing Harley T-shirts and indeed wearing American inspired biker boots for a few years!Lafleur wrote: ↑09 Apr 2020, 17:01 The Clash were BIG IN AMERICA. It’s a beautiful place but unfortunately its full of Americans.
Re: The Clash
I've been listening a bit more to the Clash recently and they have done some decent songs but do they have tracks as good as Sewer, Toiler and The Raven? I certainly haven't found them yet if they have.

To some point music or art are a matter of personal taste. To see it differently is ok.strangledinAuch wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 19:21 All down hill from Janie Jones onwards
