Re: scotland .anyone care?
Depressing to read this morning that the under 55 age group vote voted for independence and it was the over 55 age group that secured the 'No' vote. Depressing that people who are not the future have decided the future of people who didn't want the union. Even more depressing to read that just over 72% of 16 and 17 year old's voted for independence What we can take out of the vote is that the future is independence but then are Westminster going to give us another opportunity? That's going to be the real issue in the future
Hugh - "We had gangs of skinheads coming along trying to cause problems and stuff"
Rick Wakeman - "How did you deal with it?"
Hugh - "Our bass player used to jump off the stage and beat the shit out of them!"

It has been said that if sufficient evidence is found that the majority have changed their minds there could be another referendum on independence.....in a generation's time. How long is a generation? Generally that's excepted to be about 25 years. So, hold onto your hats in 2039.dan-electro wrote:Depressing to read this morning that the under 55 age group vote voted for independence and it was the over 55 age group that secured the 'No' vote. Oh please! An 80 year old's opinion is as valid as that as the 16 year old voting for the first time. The majority of women also voted NO, do you have a gripe with them to? Will you be wishing a cold winter for pensioners?
The reason YES lost is quite simple, while you accuse the NO pro Union parties of hoodwinking Scotland, the Scottish knew themselves that Salmond was trying to hoodwink the Scottish public with nothing but vague promises of a Scottish Utopia. Respect the decison of the majority of Scottish people and move on.

Oh the bliss, oh the pleasure caressing your ears.

You seem to not appreciate that when those 16-17 year olds grow up they'll be less influenced by peer pressure and will make informed decisions when they have their own jobs, families and financial commitments
There's no guarantee they'd vote in the same way if another referendum was remotely likely within the next generation.

There's no way that my vote as a teenager would be the same vote I made as a middle-ager.dan-electro wrote:Depressing to read this morning that the under 55 age group vote voted for independence and it was the over 55 age group that secured the 'No' vote. Experience and responsibility changes you.
It's good that they had the opportunity but it's still 'one man one vote.' The youth vote is NOT more important because they're the future, a lot of them will change their minds more than once about a lot of stuff in the coming years.
If you still think their opinion is most important, then, if you've got any at home, give 'em your car-keys, house keys, control of your bank account...
And let us know how the future panned out.
