Review - Steve Diggle @ The Hop Wakefield 2nd Feb 2013

Post by theraven1979 »

Venue

The Hop, Wakefield

Highlights

Steve played some Buzzcocks classics (Love Is Lies, Promises, Autonomy) along with solo stuff (Terminal - dedicated to Wilko, Wallpaper World) on his acoustic. Good perfomance by a sober Mr Diggle we were even treated to him playing keyboard for "Sick City Sometimes" which he dedicated to a recently deceased friend of his - came across really well. Only about 50 in attendance though. The smallish venue above the pub was barely half full.

Cheers, I was wondering what kind of stuff he'd be playing.

He's playing near me on Thursday, I'll more than likely go.
Last time I came here a friend of mine just got triple-jacked over a steeplehammer and jessop jessop jessop jessop jessop

Whilst it wasn't up there with the best gigs I've ever seen, if you want a bit of a Buzzcocks singalong then I recommend it - Tickets were pretty cheap as well (£8)

Merch was very reasonable as well, didn't bother with the T-Shirt but picked his latest CD up for a fiver

I've got a few of his solo LPs but I didn't know he'd had one out as recent as 2010.

Did he play Why She's a Girl from the Chainstore?

Great song.

Interesting. Nice one...I didn't know about this. Would like to catch a Diggle solo gig.

Thanks for the review Jim, nice to see him going DIY and not charging a fortune for tickets/merch.
