Out of all the 44 songs that could have been selected it decided to play Straighten Out……how ironic is that. So I thought sod it I will write a little ditty about my day out at The Hope and Anchor.

The day started for me by meeting Brian on the train after catching up on a bit of gossip I helped him drink one of the 2 cans of lager he had brought with him( I’m good like that ) we arrived in Paddington in what seemed like no time. Got to Kings X and got our digs squared away I went off to do some stuff in London, Brian went off to watch England v Argentina. Caught up Brian in Islington to watch the second half then it was off to the Anchor.

As it was still fairly early pacing myself was the order of the day as I was drinking with The Forums Heavy Weight Champion. Eventually and I am sorry if this is in the wrong order but, Leskei, John & Tania, Paul B, the lovely Kathinboots, Turkey Trotter and Paul from Long Newton all turned up. First up were Cash For Chaos who did some really good cover versions from artists such as The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Damned, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dead Kennedy’s, Rezillos and the Adverts and probably some I have missed.

Straighten Out followed with their standard set list with Shaggy on good form instructing the sound man to sort the vocals out. They were still a bit quiet during No More Heroes, but after that sounded superb as usual. Doc’s rendition of Peasant was fucking brilliant as was the whole night. There was even a good old fashioned scrap with Shaggy leaving the stage, bass in hand to sort some youths out.

Well if that is the last time they are going to play the Anchor as they say they are pissed off with the lack of support they get down south, :smt009 then I am glad I saw it. 8)

If I have missed anyone out or my facts slightly confused then so be it, but I was pissed…….alright!!!

Oh and finally I just thought I would show you the fantastic house number plate that Brain’s Mum made for me!!

Thanks for the review. Obviously the youths in the crowd who required some assistance weren’t any of us then! Thanks for the review, but Brian might have gone to watch Spain beat Argentina – not England v. Argentina – cos England were busy being outgunned by a underplaying Brazil!

Great houseplate!

Rugby Union, not that bloody football nonsense !
Rugby Union is not only the greatest team sport in the world on the field, but without a shadow of a doubt, is the greatest team sport in the world off the field. Nigel Owens.

With those I have mentioned, plus Cash For Chaos, the 3 wanabees I would say no more than 30. I also forgot to mention Leskei took quite a picy's so hopefully some will appear on The Forum!!

Can't really add more to that review but it was great when Shaggy took the whole tribute thing a step further with his JJ-style shenanigans, leaving not only the stage but the room itself mid-song  . A shame the turnout wasn't bigger - only a few forum folk but I recognised some faces from previous SO gigs in the Big Smoke -but I still had a brilliant night, although I was fading fast towards the end having drunk copious amounts of cider and wine (bloody suffering today :smt009 ) Lovely to see people again and the band, of course. I'm glad I was there at possibly their last London gig particularly as it was in the historic Hope and Anchor. Cheers lads for making the effort to come down again and putting on a storming show. Just hope it's not the last.

Very sorry to hear about Bob leaving. It's like the end of an era, history repeating itself. :smt010 I was planning to go to London, but would have had to make the 100 mile drive on my own, and with all the wind and blustery weather, decided it might not be a good idea for safety's sake. Hats off to Bob, you were great mate!!
