Brut -v- Old Spice -v- Hai Karate. Decision time....

Post by PaulinLondon »

Yes, it is another Poll and there we are.

Aftershave.

But Aftershave from the late 1970’s, early 1980’s.

Most of us will fondly remember some classic television adverts which featured the likes of, “Brut”, “Old Spice” and “Hai Karate”. I have a particular soft spot for the damsel who featured in the “Hai Karate” adverts which routinely interrupted mid to late evening viewing. She is to be found here :

Anyway, having ear wigged a conversation a good few hours ago and with yet again, Jim’s kind permission, I think we need an Excel spreadsheet audit on what make of aftershave (sorry ladies) Stranglers fans preferred to “splash on” circa The Raven, Gospel and La Folie period.

The options are :

(ii) Image

(iii) Image

For me, it was “Old Spice” all the way but that was just a personal preference.

Thank you for your time and please do register your Vote.

Your input and contribution will further the ongoing research into Stranglers fans’ preferences since the incarnation of the band.

It’s got be “Old Spice” hasn’t it ? :|

Old Spice, Granpa Toiler used to wear this and the smell reminds me of when he was with us(RIP)

Hai Karate for me. I loved the TV ad plus when you bought the aftershave pack, it came with a little wooden box which you could hang on the wall for storing the aftershave! Great stuff and a great thread!

I think it was also one of JJ's fav's back in the day!

Aye, bit of a faux-pas there Pablo. Good work Damian son.

Good poll though Paul. All 3 smells do evoke a certain reminiscence of the period like.........

Got to be Brut. Remember getting the boxed giftsets for Christmas as a kid.

Saw the deodorant in Tescos a while back and had to have a spray there and then to remind myself of the smell. Well, it took me right back. A bit like hearing a favourite record for the first time in 20 years.

Had to buy it. Love the stuff, don't care what you think.

I remember the first after shave I ever wore was me Grandad's Old Spice that he had in the bathroom cabinet - I was around 10 at the time so I wasn't exactly wearing it after a shave! I remember once I started shaving he gave me a bottle - felt dead grown up, like!

Poof Juice.

Though, when I read Hi Karate, I did automatically think of that foxy brunette chick.
So thanks for the pic too Paul
