I think the opening lines of Hanging Around are the most misheard, according to this thread
she'll paint empty beaches, black skies...

In newer ditties:

Give up the ghost train

and

She's got you grinding your back teeth

in Sinster

And "We descended to the city after all/We dived a thousand times in the Viet war"" and "Tryna keep me face down"

In that best of the best "Valley of the Birds".
she'll paint empty beaches, black skies...

“Big girl in the red dress” as
“Dig your little breakfast”
 This is my favourite so far. With JJ already singing about a Sausage on the album the seed was already planted that it should have been breakfast

Incidentally i always thought is was "Plastic Straw when your off sick" not "Plastics real" as i thought London Lady was about drug taking especially as mirrors and shivers as well as lines were all mentioned in that song.
I still find it quite difficult to hear it as “Big girl in the red dress” so always end up singing “Dig your little breakfast” when Hanging Around comes on.
Anyway I think my lyrics are an improvement on the original

"Plastic Straw when your off sick"

ETA:

As soon as I closed the computer I remembered how I misheard the lyrics in the 90s "Pick your little waitress" ... having in mind some uchy diner with uchy men leering at waitresses and deciding which one they wanted to wait their table. :smt001

And I thought Barley fever was Body fever ... Computer says that Barley fever = hangover in Gaelic culture?
"Pick your little waitress"

This is kind of embarrassing but for like forever I've thought it was "I like cherry blossom" ... and now I read the lyrics after hearing the Restrangling (which still sounds like" I like cherry blossom") ... :? whoops
she'll paint empty beaches, black skies...
