New Parasite release

Post by parasiteinblack »

"Are You Broken?" and "Period of Change"

The latter is mocking "management speak", as we're currently "on a journey" and all that.

spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/6FAmZMh9 ... rxzQsoG7ZA
bandcamp: https://parasiteofficial.bandcamp.com/a ... -of-change
it'll be on all the other platforms too, if anyone still uses em.

The brand new album "Generation Ostrich" is out today. Here's the pretentious guff I wrote on the bandcamp to explain the ideas behind it:

"Have you ever noticed how people these days are so preoccupied, misinformed and distrustful? There seems to be a general apathy towards society, the welfare of others, education and politics...
We are living in "Generation Ostrich."
This seems to be a generation with a general lack of imagination and curiosity as displayed by the narrow cultural experiences and viewpoints that most people appear to have these days, amplified by their digital echo chambers.
This album gives an overview of this phenomenon with references to such symptoms as illiteracy, management-speak, isolation, digital assistants, the Flat Earth "community" and the Dunning-Kruger effect...

This is the first full album released by the Scanlon & Saunders lineup in 13 years and features artwork painted by legendary artist Bob Parks."

bandcamp link for digital and CD: https://parasiteofficial.bandcamp.com/a ... on-ostrich
digital stores link (hopefully): https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/paras ... on-ostrich

There's also an option on the bandcamp to buy a bundle of all our previous albums digitally with a 40% discount. I've even remastered the last few so they sound a lot nicer... Hope you find something you like!

That was an interesting listen - like tuning in to John Peel in the mid eighties!
On first listen, Are You Broken is the stand out track.

New Parasite video filmed in 1991…

New EP “Hascombe Beeches” out today!
Bandcamp: https://parasiteofficial.bandcamp.com/a ... beeches-ep
Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/4A28aphJ ... BWiuyQoGUw
Apple: https://music.apple.com/gb/album/hascom ... 1734371236
Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/music/player/albums/B0CX4ZY7CT

I wrote a brief explanation of each track to see if anything tickles your fancy conceptually:
Hascombe Beeches is a wooded area in Surrey. It was severely affected by the 1987 storms and lots of trees were uprooted. Adam used to walk there with his family frequently during childhood and consequently it left a big impression on him, to the point where he will see some woods in film, TV, etc and assume it's Hascombe Beeches. It usually isn't. Sometimes you will meet someone and think you recognise them, but is it a real recognition or just another Hascombe Beeches situation?

Guess Who I Am was inspired by some of the recent experiences of Adam's grandmother who now lives in an old people's home. Prior to her current accommodation she was in a slightly less excellent home where part of her weekly itinerary apparently included playing a game called Guess Who I Am. As she suffers from dementia this seemed terribly insensitive.

Memories of You was inspired by Will seeing a pile of clothes and belongings on the side of the road that had been recently ejected from someone's house. He imagined that the recipient of this treatment had recently split with a significant other and now just had the memories of them on their phone.

The Law of Averages originally appeared on the third of Adam's solo albums and is about the importance of language. If we don't have the vocabulary to adequately express ourselves, and if we lose the ability to communicate with nuance, we run the risk of being manipulated by others who may not always have our best interests at heart, with no way of doing anything about it...

The final track of this EP is a version of Hascombe Beeches recorded live at Hascombe Beeches on a small portable recorder on 24th December 2023. Will is playing an acoustic guitar and Adam is playing a tiny Casio keyboard.
