Sorry but I don't know how JJ has the gall to stand on stage and talk about 'our' 50th,as much as I love the bloke. It's the emperor's new clothes.
How else would he sum it up though? The band HAS lasted 50 years and it would sound silly if he talked about MY 50th and you can't not mention it. It's the least worst option. OK... maybe substitute 'our' for 'the bands'?
I can't see any issue, ok if he's using the word "our" whilst the other 3 are on stage then technically it's not accurate I agree.
But what's being celebrated is 50 years of the existence of a band called The Stranglers and the music they have produced, and let's not forget that for the vast majority of those 50 years 3 of the original members were present and contributing.
So I can't see any issue, it doesn't diss Hugh in any way IMO cause he was there for the most crucial period so he is part of the celebration, even if he doesn't want to actually attend lol

Yep you've got exactly what was meant and described as....our...us...the bands 50th how else can he describe it's the bands 50th.
For me it's what they are playing on the night, how they are performing on the night with hopefully people going home well satisfied being the all important point.
I think what was meant is that it's the Stranglers 50th,the entity, the brand name as a whole has reached the milestone from 1974-2024....members coming and going is irrelevant it's the Stranglers 50th and the man who first thought of the name 50 years ago is still present on stage.
Great stuff.....
But once he goes then surely we draw a close on their marvellously extra long career......lol
That it is the final curtain call when JJ does...i think it's would be the right decision to then as it really wouldn't be any sort of Stranglers band for me only if they ever did.
But let's hope that it is still many a year off an ending...for both camps..

I honestly think you have forgotten what you was typing Toiler in your attempts to be loyal and support the band as far as you can go. You should read back and think is that what you really meant?
I just think the term "our" and "us" It sounds like a Royal "we" to me ? You have to realise that the Paul Roberts area was a waste even JJ recognises that by giving all those songs a huge side step now. Baz era well that is resting on the laurels of the band he had no part in. So "Our" and "Us" doesnt really fit but i am guessing that's JJ loyalty to make those "new" or the replacement guys feel like they have some worth.
The Stranglers seen as a branding entity. ?
Members coming and going is irrelevant ?
I honestly don't think you meant that.
Everyone has homed into the wording but its not really that its more the actions are very much like the Emperors new clothes that i thought was a genius observation and comparison.
If its what you do think and stick by it well then fair enough its your opinion.

No that's not my opinion....I'm saying it is the 50th formation of the band name itself only and not about the different members who have come and gone in the band witn their part and contribution of the brand name itself reaching it.
For me there was only ever one Stranglers band the one that first started out until 1990.
My opinion like everybody else who has their favourite time or stage of the band isn't what this is about all I was trying to say is what I thought JJ was saying by our 50th ...I think he meant the band reaching their 50th as a whole....that's only my guess on it that that the name had and not relating to members along the way, which the name only has reached it's half century....If that makes sense what i meant ...lol

Yes good,I suppose like we all say everyone's opinion will differ that's music and that's what I think is good about a forum people expressing their views but we all do have one thing in common....
The liking of the Stranglers and their music......lol
