Re: Clash
I like the singles here and there but I never quite got them. Joe always seemed toooooo earnest for me though I never doubt his commitment.
I thought the sound as a bit weak and his delivery sounds like he was eating a bag of nails. And Mick's sloppy, just out of tune "oooh oooh oooh's" on too many tracks made it a bit formulaic for me. Though they did play around with genres which I approve of but just doesn't quite fit. I can't grasp why there is such fervent love from them but each to their own. The world is a better place for the Clash but it doesn't revolve round them!

Re: Clash
For me London Calling still stands as their best album. A double album without a single weak track IMO, with the possible exception of "Revolution Rock", the closing track (apart from the add on Train in Vain), which just rambles on and on, causing me as the listener to switch off.
Apart from that the album is engaging throughout.
The follow up Sandinista is patchy at best, all through the 3 LPs you get.
Cut the Crap just failed, cause it didn't do that at all.
The second album Give 'em, starts off very strong but tails off a bit.
The first album has good songs but it's a bit "too basic musically" for me. I mean Rattus is streets ahead in that regard.
That's my "Clash review"

Re: Clash
I think we have had this discussion before? There importance in music And how many bands and people they inspired cannot be denied, broke America which was a great achievement,Strummer was a Tour De Force.l,and they weren't afraid to move away from the raw Punk sound,so whatever people think they were one of the most important bands this country ever produced IMHO.Lt kudu.

Re: Clash
Did you ever see that Todd in the Shadows one where he cuts from Joe Strummer talking about overproduction (and how he wanted to get away from that) straight into "Dictator"?theraven1979 wrote: ↑05 Sep 2022, 13:46 I have enjoyed the YouTube reviews of Cut The Crap - Americans mainly - some real wtf moments

Re: Clash
Complete Control, White Man In Hammersmith Palais and Straight To Hell are for me three of the greatest singles of all time.
How we could do with a band as good as them now.

Last time I came here a friend of mine just got triple-jacked over a steeplehammer and jessop jessop jessop jessop jessop
