Suzie Stapleton: We are the Plague

Post by Bear Cage »

I’ve just bought this album (her debut album released a couple of years back, and featuring Jim on drums), and I must say, it’s really good. I wish I’d bought it earlier.
The album is well structured and ordered, with a good flow to the songs and nice variation. I’m only on my second listen and think (at the moment) the first side is slightly stronger, but also think it will not tire, so I’ll still be listening in years to come.
Suzie’s voice is good and song writing and musicianship are spot on; although you can hear influences/similarities (Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, Bad Seeds, Killing Joke, etc..) it’s all in a good way, sounding new and fresh, and never overly derivative.

Then I got tired of counting all of these blessings, and then I just got tired.
