Suspect there's more behind the JJ not using Dave for the NC demos

Thanks for bringing this interview to our attention!
I was facinated to the insight of Toby and his history as firstly the musician and of his past American Boogie Woogie influences and blues.
I first learnt to play guitar myself for years at the beginning with the roots of blues from an old blues player back in the day and i think that blues and Boogie Woogie rightly so set's you off in good sted as a musician to be able to play and experiment in anything musically i think you wish to because the blues and rock and roll riffs is the heart of the machine in music full stop in whatever musical direction you wish to go with is my opinion.
I also thought it was great to hear him talking about when he first heard the Stranglers music and how he got into them from that first hearing of Something Better change on a walkman and No More Heroes the album and the fact he thinks like many on here too that The Raven is right up there amongst their best.
Thanks for the link it was a facinating interview and he is more than ever i think now the right and best man brought in for the job and i'm more than convinced as far as the band goes that there is plenty of years left in the old dog yet and like he said he's more than up for it with the future shorter tours, but like Toby also and rightly pointed out too that ultimately that would be a decision made in time by JJ and Baz which is only right too,but again thanks for this i thought it was a great listen that i could relate to musically myself.

That was an interesting revelation.

Toby comes across well and knows his stuff. The interview confirms my observations that he was playing the keys more like they are on the records.

I notice he has a couple of JJ Burnel picture discs up on his wall. Interesting.
How far in is the stuff about NC? I'm having a listen now.

Nice one, thanks.
That's interesting, I'm assuming that fits in with the Songs n Stories era.
The band were on a low ebb but JJ had just put all that effort into writing new material up in Norfolk so I suppose it was a time where we could have seen an end of the band and a renewed JJ solo career. Perhaps Baz joining the band swung the focus back onto the band again?
This is where an updated No Mercy would be really helpful.

Does sound like JJ was keeping his options open after CDG.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember him mentioning at one of those legendary Songs & Stories gigs (2000-2001) that when he went to Norfolk to write new stuff, his agent(s) (?) were looking at the possibilities of a solo album.
Perhaps Baz joining the band swung the focus back onto the band again?
Sounds very likely
