Glen Matlock

Post by gjinblack »

I couldn't make France and it's been two years since I saw Hugh in Bury so decided to get off my arse and pile down the M62 to Huddersfield.

The gig of choice was Glen Matlock at The Parish, an old and very cold court building.

In way of a change I went to the gig with my daughter, the last time being HMV in Manchester when The Stranglers played some About Time.
She was 7 then!

Having grabbed a pint we went upstairs to the concert room.
Chairs out as some of us are getting on now.

First on, Paul Morricone of Scaramanga Six singing a selection of his songs with a PC as his backing track.
His best song was Angular Face about a miserable aunt who ruins Xmas.

Next up, Richard Heeley, a left handed guitarist singing songs of social injustice, enjoyable and good guitar playing.

Finally, the main event.
Glen entertains with a mixture of tales of old, his solo stuff and a number of covers.

God Save The Queen is played early on after a couple of his own.
I enjoyed his guitar playing, no barre chords and he's very nimble fingered around the fret board.

We get Pretty Vacant later and Stepping Stone towards the end.

It was great to be back at a gig and of course today sees further restrictions possibly so glad I made it.

Thanks for reading this far!
