Bands that are better than the stranglers....

But marillion, I never really tried them - what album would you recommend to start off with ?

Blimey, that's a good one to ask!!! Errrr....maybe just start off at the beginning with Script for a Jesters Tear. It's dark and foreboding stuff, but if you want some lighter stuff to start with, I'd say Misplaced Childhood.

I'd have to say that bands that are better than the Stranglers, really does depend on moods.

The only classic track of The Stranglers from 1990 till present day is Relentless, but before that, just about anything of theirs could take my fancy, and I think The Stranglers sit alongside Marillion quite nicely, in a very strange way. I think it boils down to Reading Rock in 1983.

It's all down to personal taste, in my opinion there's none better because they've covered so much from their early classic stuff and are still creating some really good tracks like Freedom and Giants. There's an album/track for any occasion/mood.
I'm not saying there's not other great bands like Pink Floyd, The Damned, Simple Minds and many others, but none better

Funnily enough I was watching A momentary lapse of reason tour (BBC4) last night and I have to say that although I do lurrve Dark Side, etc, but The Wall and The Final Cut to me were the very best of Floyd.

It really is just a personal thing to people what they like and if someone thinks that Giants is the best IV album ever, well that;s up to them and I think that's what makes music so great

For me the only bands that can rival them are the Manics, Killing Joke, XTC and Depeche Mode. All of them have produced many great albums like the Stranglers over a long period of time. The Stranglers material is far more diverse and interesting though so they are still the best imo.

It's all down to personal taste.I personally think the only band that had as many good songs as the Stranglers were the Beatles.

I personally don't think there is or was a better group than the Stranglers IMHO.
