Newcastle 29/03/13 review

Post by elvisintheclouds »

So, newly refreshed the three journeyed to the east...
Across the snowy landscape, at times crossing the border into lands unknown...
Eventually they made way to the fair city of Newcastle.
Again sanctuary was sought within the enclave known as Premier Inn. Where one of the number succumbed to the fever known as the dreaded lurgy!
Then they were two...
And the two did venture deep into the heart of the city.
Whereupon they did encounter once more a ceremonial gathering, where the natives did speak with a strange tongue. And they did party most hardily, welcoming travellers from far and near into the fold.
The ones known as the godfathers did once more prepare well the throng for the arrival of the Meninblack...
Two drum kits did indicate the presence of the founding father. While mystical runes did indicate that today was the anniversary of the arrival on this plane of existence of the grand wizard known as Dave... Happy Birthday sire!
A fine evening of sonic delight was provided for and lapped up by one and all. The master of the low frequency range called by the name of JJ did receive a native garment known as a bra which he did adorn his crown with much to the merriment of the masses. The one named Baz did put in a fine performance and was seen to enjoy the occasion very well.
The great opus known as Genetix did bring much joy to EiTC, who was heard to utter the following words... Top night, great sound, great crowd, f*cking awesome! 8)
Thank you very much

Methinks he doth mean a Tavern of Ale?

Eternal gratitude for such clarification. The invite was forthcoming but this was overridden by the need to return to the enclave to tend to the stricken...
Thank you very much

And another thing...
forgot to mention that the floor of the venue appeared to have been made from rubber, very bouncy!

Thank God for Facebook! If I hadn't seen the early show warning, I'd never have been there.

On holiday, wi wife, kids & in laws, down in Whitley Bay. Was checking 'pussjotter', when MiB early show in Newcastle appears on my page.
Promptly ask wife, who's unpacking, if it's alright 2 go. To my amazement, It's a yes!

Roping in the Bro-in-law, for his 1st Stranglers gig & we're off, for an 18.15 bus, into the city centre.

A quick check, & gloat, wi Toiler, at control central, & word comes back that there should be tickets available on the door & that the Star was the place for catching any familiar faces & pre-gig drinks.

Public transport in the toon, certainly is that. £4.10 return, is way cheaper than what we're charged in our bit of Unionist utopia, but that's another story. We arrive at the O2 about 19.30, the support have already started, so we purchase, what would be described in Scotland as, our "Souvenir Special!" tickets* and it was over to the Star for a couple of pints.

Unfortunately, there was no recognizable faces, but service was quick & the Guinness cold.
2 fast ones downed & it was over by & into the venue. A typical Academy, former picture house & similar in size to the Picture House in Embra.
The lights go down & it's on wi the show.
Waltzinblack certainly is different wi no Jockthebox. It does miss a certain somthing without him. The next hour & a half is then like an express train through a varied set of old, new, classic & traditional tracks. Interspersed with Baz barbs at those not "from Gods country".

It's the first time I've seen them with Jets replacement, & they did seem tighter as a unit, but the boss showed why he'll always be the Guvnor, stealing the show when taking his place behind the kit. Even the birthday boy, delaying the encore with a pitstop, couldn't upstage him.

Gig over & It's exit stage left, & first to the bar in the Star for another couple. Before heading back to the bus station to miss our lift by seconds. As it disappeared into the distance, we took the 1/2 he till the next one in the refuge of a hostelry opposite, to quench our drouth.

The Bro-in-law thought it was great, his only gripe being how he got drenched by someone's pint, whilst I was perfectly dry!
"Experience" came my reply.

*pic to be posted later, as I'm doing this far ma phone.
