Goldfrapp and Red Wine

Post by Alan A Hillier »

Peace and quite reigns at last. A bottle (or two) of decent Red and a Goldfrapp session will be my Sunday afternoon/evening reward for feeding the brood, who have gone off to do something more interesting and left me to my own devices.

Some music makes me want to jump about, this music makes me think and reflect, not always a good thing, but it is provocative mood music, clever, evocative and almost compelling with some challenging lyrics that have sneaked passed the dreary old censors a la ‘Paper Bag’ which was performed live on various music stations including TOTP, with opening line “No time to fuck”.

We all associate music with events (more of that later. perhaps), Goldfrapp makes me remember certain things including F.B Andy ‘Daddy’ Christou and I’m not entirely sure why that is…….But That’s the beauty of music………

Doesn't quite work live though IMO - saw them a couple of years back and was very disappointed.

"No time to fuck".....a classic virgo rising trivial one liner delivered far too ambiguously in this case if you ask me. ( Any astrology buffs out there?)
I'm more frequently having to hunt around in the children's rooms for my Goldfrapp CDs these days.

No time to fuck, but you like the rush
Where would we be without sums
Deals we make

Brown paper bag, makes for a hat
When it rains on your head mate
Cheers for that

When the world stops for snow
When you laugh I'm inside
Your mouth

Sucking the sun
Baboons and birds
With the weight of you dear
I forgot

Brown paper bag, makes for a hat
When it rains on your head mate
Cheers for that

When the world stops for snow
When you laugh I'm inside
Your mouth

Oh just go dear
Feels a tear

When you laugh I'm inside
Your mouth

This Reds going down well

Download a few tracks by Goldfrapp a few years back. Gotta admit that some of it does sound good. Listening to 'Paper Bag' earlier, cool track 8)

Jim

I don’t want to see a ‘live’ performance from Goldfrapp. (I’d rather see Goldblade in a stinky little pub)
There would be far too many people around and I’d probably end up weirding them out or getting kicked out for telling the idiotic punters to shut the fuck up as I tried to close my eyes and concentrate on the music in my alcoholic haze. ………..

A gig is a collective ‘pack’ experience with lots of physical distractions (which you need and enjoy in most cases) so I’m not surprised it didn’t tickle your ‘live’ musical Mojo Jim... wrong place to enjoy this music.

I’m sure Allison Goldfrapp lives for her ‘live’ stage performances ……….. but me…….. I like to listen to her work on my own with a nice bottle or two.

Just enjoy whatever it was that made you spend your hard earned to go to and see Goldfrapp in the first place James, and do it …………..
In the comfort of your own headphones..

Loved em before they became huge, their first album was bloody brilliant, went off em a bit when they went all glam/pop.
