...and you're trying to tell me you don't like The Smiths Bazza???

'How Soon Is Now?' is one of the greatest records ever made imho. 'The Queen Is Dead' is an excellent album to boot. The rest is patchy, like 'Strangeways' for example. I am a fan but not a massive fan. Having said that when you hear Morrisey/The Smiths these days it's all very refreshing.

Going backto'How Soon Is Now?'...I have the 12" single and it's just one of those pieces of music that cuts right into you, can reduce you to tears, very powerful.
Too true Bazza. Was just saying this tonight to Gizz on the way home from work - How Soon Is Now? is one of my favourite Smiths numbers - if you could sum up what The Smiths are about in one record, this is it.

"There's a club if you'd like to go,
You could meet somebody who really loves you.
So you go, and you stand on your own,
And you leave on your own,
And you go home, and you cry and you want to die."

Superb.

"So shut your mouth
How can you say?
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everyone else does"

May not be a perfefect rendition but ya get the drift..... 8)

"Oh Mother I can feel, the soil falling over my head.
And as I climb into an empty bed. Oh well, enough said.

I know it's over, still I cling. I don't know where else I can go.
Over and over and over and over.

I know it's over, and it never really began. But in my heart, it was so real.
And you even spoke to me and said;

If you're so funny, then why are you on you're own tonight?
And if you're so clever, then why are you on your own tonight?
If you're so very entertaining, then why are you on you're own tonight?
And if you're so terribly good looking, then why do you sleep alone tonight?

I know.
Because tonight is just like any other night, that's why you're on your own tonight.
And your triumphs and your charms, while they're in each others arms.

It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate.
It takes strength to be gentle and kind, over.

It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate,
It takes guts to be gentle and kind, over.

Love is natural and real, but not for you my love, not tonight my love.
Love is natural and real, but not for such as you and I, my love.

Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head."

I Know It's Over.(abridged, before you tell me there are missing lyrics!))

'Still ill' is the definitve Smiths track.

One of those songs you could play for ever.

I decree today that life is simply taking and not giving,
England is mine and it owes me a living.

Never been that much of a fan of HSIN

Not the Smiths but another Manchester band that I've been listening to recently - particularly this track

Biggest Mountain - Insprial Carpets.

In my youth
Had someone told me
What would come
And how things would be
Then those days would've been a much brighter place
But the doubt of not knowing
Leaves a stigma that is hard to shake

To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me

Waking Monday
Reading Saturday's news
In a town
I've not seen before
Curious
Small and ugly room
I can't find the door and everywhere
There's faces smiling at me

To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me

In my youth
Had someone told me
What would come
And how things would be
Then those days would've been a much brighter place
And the doubts of not knowing
Leaves a stigma that is hard to shake

To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me

I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me

Everything to me
Everything to me

It taught me how to laugh again"
