Re: The Ramones
Well. The Ramones anyway.
Never really got them. I can see why they were exciting at the time but the whole kind of "educationally subnormal" thing just didn't click with me.
I like the intelligence The Stranglers and The Pistols. I like the horror camp of The Damned and the dystopian gloom of Killing Joke.
But I can't get the sloganeering of The Clash or the Football terrace yob mentality of Cockney Rejects or Sham.
So I put the Ramones in that second camp. Dopey twats!
Can anyone give me a song that would change my mind?

Re: The Ramones

It IS bemusing seeing all the shirts on so many people who you just know don't have a clue about the Ramones.
I like them, always thought of them as a male version of 60s girl bands like Shangri-las, Ronettes, etc, but not as pleasant to hear (or see

'Peaches - A Chronicle of The Stranglers from 1974 to 1990', out 2014 on Soundcheck Books.
Think I'll go for a stroll in the trees.

Re: The Ramones
I think other bands did dumb bubblegum pop punk better than the Ramones - The Dickies spring to mind - but maybe the Ramones justified their reputation as they were the first to play that sort of music. The Dickies are great live by the way- really good fun.1

Re: The Ramones
Regarding the Pistols, some Einstein on the forum would disagree with you on that.
Oh the irony.
He/She said they hated Steve Jones cos he was thick!

Can’t remember who said it but I’m sure a search on the forum would bring up their name.
Jonesy’s Dyslexic or whatever and was a pilfering little fucker but he certainly ain’t thick. Created one the best albums ever, got one of the best Les Paul sounds ever, owns a football team, got his own radio show and was at one point drowning in LA pussy. If he’s thick then I ’ll have a bit of that thickoness too thank you very much.
Wrote one of the most entertaining and funniest autobiographies too, like, ever.
Just strap on your guitar and we'll play some rock 'n roll
