I liked that band.
I love that song.

But they have never released any live recordings and I've never seen a bootleg either.

There's one clip of them performing the song live when they reunited for the Rewind Festival in 2011.

Oh, and Manic Street Preachers have covered it several times including earlier this year on a Radio 2 live session.

I also have a live recording of a pub band called 'Impact' playing the song in a bar in Malta during one of our holidays if that helps.

Your friend should write an email to the lead singer Kevin Patterson, he now works in IT at the University Of Dundee  I can't remember them ever doing a tour, I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were fed up touring (with previous bands they had been in) and started Fiction Factory as a project for writing songs for other people, they did two albums but they never charted and the only success was that one single in 1984.
Hugh - "We had gangs of skinheads coming along trying to cause problems and stuff"
Rick Wakeman - "How did you deal with it?"
Hugh - "Our bass player used to jump off the stage and beat the shit out of them!"
