South Street Romford, shopping arcade
Got a Razzle magazine, I never paid
Inside my jacket and away double quick
Good sense told me, once was enough
But I had a cocky eye on more of this stuff
With the Razzle in my pocket, back to have another peek
Thanks for that couplet Rockula... Quality! 'Razzle' magazine was the equivalent of a poor man's 'Mayfair' or 'Playboy' allegedly...

But with a consenting adult albeit asleep and not violently forced... He also emphasised in a radio interview that the lyric was:
"Wake up and make love WITH me" to show empathy toward his partner. But yeah, basically rape!

Yes a very grey area these days, however not to change the topic I agree his lyrics are fantastic.

Re. Clever Bastards...

The opening verse does it for me...

Van Gogh did some eyeball pleasers
He must have been a pencil squeezer
He didn't do the Mona Lisa
That was an Italian Geezer!

Pure genius/class all the way!
Thank you very much

'You come awake
In a horny morning mood
And we'll have a proper wriggle
In the naughty, naked nude"

Only Ian Dury could write these simplistic lyrics and raise a smile...
She was poetry in a world that was still learning the alphabet....

I think you may have mis-interpreted these lyrics gentlemen...

"You look so self-possessed
I won't disturb your rest
Its lovely when you're sleeping
But wide awake is best"

It's a man admiring the woman whilst she is sleeping....but he obviously prefers it when she is awake, hence the title "Wake up and make love with me. (see my other post).
Where the hell did the insinuation of rape come into these lyrics eh?
PS Bernie...remove your wink after the word Rape ...I find it distasteful. Thank you Sir.

Massive fan. Some great examples of his brilliance. Bastards is right up there and Razzle In My Pocket. Love the complete unpcness of these. SPASTICUS!

I wibble when I piddle
Cos my middle is a riddle

So place your hard-earned peanuts in my tin
And thank the Creator you're not in the state I'm in
So long have I been languished on the shelf
I must give all proceedings to myself
Image
Home is a black leather jacket
Fitting sweetly to my brain!
