Punk and New Wave bands have always flirted with Reggae and Dub rhythms, and this genre symbiosis has given us the fans some tasty tunes... The Ruts / Ruts DC, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Elvis Costello & The Attractions, The Jam, XTC, Ian Dury & The Blockheads and The Stranglers to name just a few (I'm won't include 'Rock' music: Eric Clapton's limp version of Bob Marley's 'I Shot The Sheriff') The MIB have used this cross pollination of genre rhythms to great effect especially on a particular Reggae influenced 'Bass Line' that became the melody and signature tune for the halcyon Punk Summer of 1977... Lee Perry and Bob Marley were included in this mash-up of Punk and Reggae in 1977 and produced and performed the tune 'Punky Reggae Party' which included the lyrics: "The Wailers will be there The Damned The Jam The Clash, The Maytals will be there, Dr Feelgood too!"
Therapy, The Meteors and Franz Ferdinand amongst others have covered The Stranglers in their own distinctive genre styles too, but for me personally it's all about the phat Bass Lines and this is particularly prevalent in Reggae rhythms. I personally can't remember all the plethora of Punk and New Wave reggae crossover tunes that have been produced but would be good for anyone who shares this taste in tunes to list some on here.

Re: Genre Flirtation & Cross Pollination
Tribute act 'Straighten Out' on several occasions at the Hope & Anchor have been playing a bass line and have then suddenly broken into the bass line from 'Get Up Stand Up' (Bob Marley & The Wailers ) and then back to the original Stranglers bass line... interesting.

The Members + Reggae + Kraftwerk

And they're still doing the reggae thing and mixing up genres.

I'm looking forward to seeing them a lot of times this year especially at Butlins with a certain 'band in black'. :)
