Rockumentaries!

Post by MiB81 »

Sadly, and as discussed recently on the Damned doc thread, it's a total farce that no
Stranglers comprehensive doc has been done (BBC Choice show apart) and this post has to
go it the Other Bands section, but I do love a good Rock-Doc and can watch them on
bands I don't even like (the recent Spandau Ballet one being an example, though I
wouldn't recommend it (I heard it was unintentional hilarious, and it kinda was,
a band so full of themselves it hurt), but as I said, I wouldn't really recommend it.
Currently on my hard-drive, and watched, are-

Cracked Actor (Bowie)
Renaldo & Clara, Eat The Document (Dylan)
The recent Kate Bush one,
Kraftwerk and the electronic revolution
Flight 666 (Maiden)
20,000 Days (Nick Cave)
Ramones Raw,
20 Feet From Stardom,
A Band Called Death
Super Duper Alice Cooper
Oil City Confidential
Beware of Mr.Baker
Cobain Montage of Heck
Crass- There is no authority...
The Devil & Daniel Johnston
Foo Fighters-Back n Forth
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Eyeball (Kennedys)
Cobaine- About a son,
Marley
Metal-A Headbangers Journey
Rock School
Rocksteady-Roots of Reggae
Beyond The Lighted Stage (Rush)
Sound City
The Last Waltz
The Other F Word
Made Of Stone
Until The Light Takes Us
When You’re Strange

got a few more on DVD, Anvil etc,
Anyone want to suggest any others that are worth a watch?

Anvil is a great film. Beware of Mr Baker I found slightly unsettling, possible due to his irascible nature and general obnoxiousness. Also the way he dismissed Keith Moon had more than a whiff of jazz snobbery.
I can't help getting old. I just refuse to grow up.

Seen quite a few of those listed.

BBC4 on a Friday usually do a rockumentary and are usually an eye-opener into bands I would rarely consider even listening to. Chas & Dave one was a shock, Culture Club a car crash, the list goes on.

Similar to Mr Baker - Adam Ant's Blue Hussar dc is jaw dropping.

However one of the best was the 'fake' hip-hop stars from Scotland, who fooled the music business - brilliant.
Allow me to re-arrange your face, sometimes I'd really like to get to know you better

The Great Hip Hop Hoax- the book is a not bad read too.
Will look out for the Adam Ant one, never knew about that.

Cocksucker Blues, if only for the scene where Jagger attempts to order a selection of fruit from room service.

Not seen it, it's never been officially released has it? Where did you see it?
I think I've got Sympathy For The Devil somewhere, still to watch.
