In The Dog House With....THE REZILLOS!!!
A quick review then.......
As some of you may have observed...I love The Rezillos!
Last night they played a venue called The Dog House in Nottingham, a new place to me, situated some distance away from the city centre where most touring bands tend to play. The last time I saw Fay Fife & Eugene Reynolds on my home turf was back in '79 with the newly formed Revillos and so I was really looking forward to seeing them in Nottingham again. Excited even.
I went with a couple of mates and not long after we had parked up I noticed a couple of cars pull up. A few blokes and a couple of middle aged women got out. One was Fay Fife! I was certain...shortish hair, bit of a beer gut, shades on..had to be her. Admittedly she looked different but then again she wasn't in her stage gear yet. Anyway, I've always wanted to meet Fay Fife and so I thought fuck it I'm gonna say summmat to her. Not sure what though. As I approached her I think I told her how I loved The Rezillos and mentioned that I was at The Revillos gig at The Sandpiper in 1979....blah!Blah!Blah! etc. I was hoping for a few friendly words back but I got a frosty response instead. Almost like she couldn't be arsed to acknowledge me. I continued..
"You are Fay Fife..or should I call you Sheilagh?" (Sheilagh Hynde being her real name)
The woman with her burst out laughing, she was Fay Fife then! However, my mates weren't convinced and said something like;
"That's not her you twat!"
Of course, I knew they were wrong but as we adjourned to the beer garden of a nearby pub I couldn't help but dwell on the fact that Fay Fife was a fucking ignorant bitch in my experience. I felt let down. I love Fay Fife...sniff!
After a couple of pints in the pub we returned to The Dog House to catch the last bit of one of the support bands sets and I stocked up on a bit of merchandise. I noticed Fay and her friend were also watching the support band. Better get a move on girl I thought to myself. You'll be on stage soon. I eventually made my move to the front in anticipation of the imminent arrival of The Rezillos. The 'Batman' theme signalled their arrival and as I glanced over my shoulder I could see the woman still in the crowd behind me. Bollocks! It hadn't been Fay Fife I had been talking to afterall. I have to admit I felt like a right twat! But, at the same time I experienced a sense of relief as well. Who said.."sould have gone to specsavers"?
So, The Rezillos took to the stage, the real Fay looking as beautiful as ever and the band entertained as they always do. Set list included;
Out Of This World
No
Sculptures
Getting Me Down
No
Mystery Action
Destination Venus
Bad Guy Reaction
No 1 Boy
Cold Wars
Top Of The Pops
River Deep Mountain High
Someones Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight
Flying Saucer Attack
Probably missed some out. Pretty much a standard Rezillos set although they did throw in a couple of new numbers which I have to say didn't particularly sound anything special to these ears on first listening. Great gig though, good turn out and a fantastic atmosphere. The Rezillos seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage spurred on by the crowds enthusiasm. Top night out!
I love The Rezillos!!!!
Got a few pix for once as well......
