On the alternative. The best gig I saw was Naz Nomad and the NIghtmares at or very close to Stonehenge, maybe we stopped off at Stonehenge on the way :?: , many many moons ago. I didn't even know who they were, and what the feck we were doing down there, but one of my girlfriends said lets go. So a bunch of us did.

Great Story, but I don't think Joy Division supported Beefheart. I think it was the Comsat Angels.

All this talk about best bands and worst bands got me thinking, as did a
conversation we had on Wednesday night before the SOD gig-
What was the worst gig you ever went to?

Some surprising answers on the night, Mick, the Jokerface guitarist,
probably won it with his recollections, summarised below-

Late 70's, Glasgow Apollo, him and his mates scored free briefs for a gig.
They turned up, declared the support band total mince, hung around for the
headliner, who none of them had heard of. Stayed for 2 songs, looked at
each other and said, "This isn't punk, issit?" and left for the pub instead.

Support band that night?
Joy Division.
Headliner?
Captain Beefheart!

I reckon that tops my "Nolans" story

Anymore?

Shakatak (or however you spell it) 'cause my sister had her 21st birthday at a chicken-in-a-basket venue back in the '80's.

Total pants.

Oh, and SLF at Rebellion in '09. Not 'cause of the band but because of the useless sound engineers.

And Toyah at the old Marquee.....

And....

There's been too many.

Nope. Shakatak definitely the worst ever.

Sham 69 Chippenham Goldiggers, sometime in the early nineties and Deacon Blue Bristol Studio(can't remember the date) left both gigs early.

The Shamen, Calton Studios, Embra, Oct 1990.

Pub I drank in had "In Gorbachev we Trust" on the JB, we pretty much played it to death & bought tickets off the back of it. However, unbeknowns to us, Angus and Sinnott had delved head long into the dance/acid scene & the tickets duly arrived bearing "Synergy with the Shamen" emblazoned on them.

To cut a long story short, it was a steaming pile of pish topped off with somebody throwing a pint, over the now sadly departed Sin, stopping the gig in an instant. "Up here, now!" ranted the bassist, as the bouncers grabbed the guy, us thinking 'Yes, it's going to kick off'. Only for us to fall about laughing, on hearing the said pint thrower being told "Now dance!", when he got up on stage.

Suffice to say we headed straight back to the nearest pub.

To get my drift, they went from this, to this

Strangely enough, while I couldn't stand Oasis, every time I've seen them live (on TV) they have sounded fantastic. Shite songs, but great live sound. :?
