The intro to "Happy House" is in my "Top 5 Chart of Best Intros".
Number 1 slot is held by "The Man They Love to Hate".

wouldn't quite agree, The Scream is essential, Join Hands is worth having, Voices in the Air- the Peel sessions is really good as is most of the Downside Up b-sides boxset, kaleidoscope is not a bad album, JU-Ju seriously good stuff, kiss in the Dreamhouse- not bad, hyeana is shit, Tinderbox is a very good album, Peepshow has it's moments, Superstition is alright not that good and dito for the rapture. side project The Cretures did a couple of alright albums namely Bommerang and Anima Animus the rest of their's I can live without, also Siouxsie Sioux's solo album Mantaray has a couple of good songs.wanderlust wrote:Just buy the first four albums and the TWICE UPON A TIME singles complilation that is all you need..

If you only want to select from 5 then I'd suggest the following to give a good end-to-end view (if you can view music!) of the various line-ups and musical directions that they took. After The Stranglers the band I've seen the most are The Banshees approx 25 times and for me they were at their best around the time of JuJu and Israel when the late, great John McGeoch was in the band.
The Scream
Ju Ju (my personal favourite)
Tinderbox
Peepshow
Superstition

Peepshow
Superstition
If Karen Carpenter had eaten Mama Cass' sandwich they'd both still be alive today!

'The Scream' ought to be in everyone's record collection. Very good album.
'Join Hands', 'Ju Ju' &'Tinderbox' are the only other ones that I consider to be of worth although I've not heard all the albums I confess. My overall opinion of The Banshees is that they were a great singles band but their albums were hard work. Just like PiL,Killing Joke.....etc..etc..

Re: Siouxsie and the Banshees - Where do I start?
My fave albums were Kaleidoscope in 1980 and Juju the following year.
John McGeoch was their amazing guitarist at the time for those who don't know yet - great singles from these LPs such as (Paul's fave intro) Happy House, the brilliantly spooky Christine, Spellbound, Arabian Knights (add on Israel here)... and superbly chilling album tracks like Red Light, Clockface, Skin, Desert Kisses, Night Shift, Monitor, Into The Light...
As Dale sez, these were the bestest times for SATB. H'es seen them 25 times live - I've seen them once - and what an impact that once made on me back in 2002 at SBE. The Banshees were great, but no one is like Siouxsie.
