Manics new album and live dates
Just got this...
As we previously advised, we have been making music - to be more specific, we have been in Rockfield studio in Wales with Mr Steve Albini recording a new album, Journal For Plague Lovers.
All 13 songs on the new record feature lyrics left to us by Richey. The brilliance and intelligence of the lyrics dictated that we had to finally use them. The use of language is stunning and topics include The Grande Odalisque by Ingres, Marlon Brando, Giant Haystacks, celebrity, consumerism and dysmorphia, all reiterating the genius and intellect of Richard James Edwards.
The record is scheduled for release on 18th May and will be available on CD, deluxe 2 CD, download and LP.
The full tracklisting is as follows:
Peeled Apples
Jackie Collins Existential Question Time
Me and Stephen Hawking
This Joke Sport Severed
Journal For Plague Lovers
She Bathed Herself In A Bath Of Bleach
Facing Page: Top Left
Marlon J.D.
Doors Closing Slowly
All Is Vanity
Pretension/Repulsion
Virginia State Epileptic Colony
William’s Last Words
An original piece of Jenny Saville’s art is the cover for Journal for Plague Lovers, one of her paintings also graced the cover of 1994’s The Holy Bible.

Re: Manics new album and live dates
The Roundhouse sounds tempting. I was disappointed with their last album though. I prefered Lifeblood.

Dear lord - it's like they've become a washed up cartoon parady of their former selves.

Yes from "Lifeblood" onwards i think diddn't think much of the last single the one with the bird singing on it. "Found that soul" i did like though. & "Know your enemy" was the last decent album.

Heard one of the songs on the radio - sounds like the shit they did for the last album - more American sounding cock rock shite

Re: Manics new album and live dates
i bought a couple of there singles in 2001, and was going to buy a third but couldnt find it anywhere.
the singles were "ive found my soul" i think thats the correct title, and "why so sad" again i think thats what it was called.
i had heared the manics before i heared these singles, but didnt like what i heared. however, then i saw the bass player wearing a skirt, or it might have even been a dress, and he also had heavy eye make up on.
i wasnt a fan from then on

Re: Manics new album and live dates
I'll be at Brighton & 3rd Roundhouse night. Not sure what I think of the idea of them 'finding' some of Richey's lyrics (after all this time) & using them-seems a bit desperate to me. Reviews seem to indicate a darker Holy Bible feel to the album-I hope that's the case.

Re: Manics new album and live dates
They've been going down this "this is what we're supposed to sound like" route since the last album IMO. They've gone all GnR Yankee Cock Rock cos they think that's what the fans want to hear. It's a shame I though Lifeblood was quite interesting and where they were naturally - Now they're trying to mould and force themselves into a certain ilk it stinks rotten IMO.
