Just got back from one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I approached this concert with trepidation, would Magazine be as good as I hoped?

Arrived at the Bull & Gate at about 5:30, the Juke Box isn't as good as it used to be, but it still had a couple of Stranglers tracks on it (GB & 96 Tears) plus Magazine's Shot by both Sides. Guinness wasn't bad though; had a couple of pints, whilst waiting for my mate to arrive with my ticket, before heading out for a bite to eat and then onto the Forum (still think of it as the Town and Country Club).
Inside the Forum we waited for a while, whilst listening to some pretty good warm up tracks, including Shah (a sign it was gonna be a good night).
Then Ipso Facto (the support) appeared, looking a bit manufactured (4 pretty girls, same build and haircuts) but they were quite enjoyable, a little bit derrivative, but generally OK.
A short break and then came Magazine.
They were awesome, all that you could hope for (and more), they played almost faultlessly. Ipso Facto added backing vocals to a few of the tracks, Dave, John, Barry, Noko and Howard were all brilliant. Every track worked great live, even 'The Book' worked, making as a perfect intro/pause before the manic '20 Years Ago, which flowed directly into Definitive Gaze. High points (If I had to pick anything) were probably Permafrost & Motorcade. Noko had a pretty hard job, stepping in for McGeogh, but he was great, never sounding out of place, or detracting from the great songs.

If any band ran the Stranglers close in quality of output in the 70's it was Magazine, seeing them live (having missed then first time round) shows they are also a match in that arena. If I picked my all time top 10 concerts it'd include Magazine tonight (and Luxuria from ~20 year back)
Then I got tired of counting all of these blessings, and then I just got tired.

Anyone else at Glasgow last night?

I thought Magazine were absolutely fantastic, totally blew me away.

In fact, I would say that was as good as ANY gig I have been to before.

I saw them on tuesday in Manchester, fantastic, really great. I only have Real life so I didn't recognise a few songs, so I need to pick up the others ASAP

Thoroughly enjoyed the Glasgow gig. The set was a bit like Magazine albums in general - 90% excellent with the occasional track where experimentalism gets the better of them, although give me that over playing safe any day. Overall they were better than I could have hoped for. Support band Ipso Facto were pretty and pretty good too, although the girls backing vocals during Magazine were buried in the mix. Never expected to see Magazine - just shows you never know who'll get back together! It would be interesting to see what they come up with if they stay together longer than just these dates, and record something new.

That's actually a good point you make - I can remember months before the tour looking at my Magazine ticket and thinking "fuckin hell - who'd have thought it" - even after the gig I'm still stunned that I've seen them live.
