People placing little value on the hard work which goes into gaining an education be it academic or more practical skills such as learning a trade or the performing arts. I was attending a performance at my local arts centre the other day where I would say the majority of the audience were of above average intelligence and was struck by how many people, from their body language, appeared lacking in confidence or self esteem. It made me think about the culture we have of bullying the smart kid. Is there a school of hard knocks in this country which teaches us the way to get ahead is by picking the brains of someone who has done their homework, whilst keeping them in an underdog position with subtle, unwarranted putdowns about their appearance and moral denunciations regarding the way the choose to live their lives ?

American sitcom 'Friends' my stepson loves it, but I can't stand it - the canned laughter after each person says something makes me cringe!
Give me a bit of Basil Fawlty or Del boy anyday, now that's proper comedy.

The BBC added 'canned laughter' to the VHS and DVD editions of them both though?.
"They don’t come much better than The Stranglers when performing live; there is no pretence, no hiding place, just superb music"

Probably yes, but I just don't like 'Friends', it's something I've never been able to get into.
