the takes some balls thread got me thinking about the word Bollocks and how amazingly versatile it is...
I mean:
Never Mind The Bollocks
Look at the size of those Bollocks
Bollocks I missed the gig
Oh Bollocks
I got to wondering if there could ever be a 100 uses for the word Bollocks and whether there is a book in it.....
The BUT book of Bollocks....
Hmmmmm. any takers?

Did you see that QI the other week?
There was a bit on that about how years ago Mechano, I think it was, came in 2 different types of packaging- the normal sized box which was labelled Box Standard, and the posher, bigger one which was labelled
Box Deluxe.
Anyhoo, according to Stephen Fry, and who are any of us to
disagree with him, these names got changed in common parlance
over the years and, supposedly, that's where we get the derivations:
Bulk Standard- to denote something that is "run of the mill", and
Dog's Bollocks, for something that is really rather good.
Oh, on a less high brow level, there's also the expression "absolutely
cunted." Sure we've all been there. And will be again.

I guess though Cunt holds the award really for being the only swear word. Bollocks, fuck etc are part of every day useage and you wouldn`t look twice at someone saying it - even vicars and 5 year olds probably use it on a regular basis. Cunt however is a bit special.

I would agree about cunt (although cock-sucker has to be up there too).
I listened to an old XFM show the other day there with Ricky Gervais and that was the gist of what he was doing on the show- using all the words that, if you're referring to one thing it's perfectly acceptable to use on the radio, but not if the same word is used in a different context.
For example: cock, tit etc - ok if talking about wildlife, not if
you're boasting about what you got up to the previous night in conjunction
with an obliging lady friend and a bar of soap.
He spent the whole show dropping in all these words, which included
his on air mate asking him who his favourite philosopher was.
"Oh, it has to be CANT" he replied in a broad cockney accent. Que
loads of, "Oh, you like CANT, do you?" "Oh yes I love a bit of CANT,
doesn't everyone like CANT?" etc.
