RIP Diego Maradona

Post by aldinblack »

To all football fans, whether you liked him or not, and I know he was contraversial, there's no denying the amazing talent of the man. The best ever ? Probably.

He was the real deal, that's for sure. A trait most Stranglers fans would sympathise with.

He achieved God like status, and not just for that goal !

Personally , I think Pele was better but that's just opinion.....different era's, different styles etc . Nearest England have had was Gascoigne . Shame he tarnished his career with that goal but necessary great , helping Napoli do the near impossible . Far more footage of Katarina over Pele so far easier to make a case for him being best , also football kit etc far more advanced in every way , the same can be said for Messi over Katarina , you now have an era in which every move is analysed from every angle . The game moves on but great players are great players in any era .Cruyff would be my 3rd place .
All quiet ..........

Fantastic, fascination sportsman, and a sadly missed character.
I just hate how "our" news continues to define him by that game
when he played against your England football team.

I think he's better than Pele ... main reason being Brazil had loads of great players who all contributed to their success..

But Maradona pulled the Argies and Napoli to success through sheer will power... not just his football skill but his charisma.

GOAT in my book. With Gordon Hill second...

In my lifetime he was the best player i have seen.

Older folk will say Pele or Best but i'm not of the age to remember them.

I have no interest in football but Maradona was a fucking amazing player, he had a troubled life after football with drugs and booze, the Argentinian George Best, but Maradona also had character, and had god like statest in Argentina. Sad loss. Lt Kudu.

Incredible dribbling around 3 men - that was good

Somewhat of a pioneer in cheating - that was a bad thing.

Mixed emotions for me.

Yes the best player I've ever seen. I hated him after the 1986 world cup though! I haven't seen as many TV clips though of Pele and Best. His film is definitely worth a watch.
