is there not also politically motivated trolling?
where for example commited conservatives will flood the comment section of an online news story to push a party line
this is very common in AMerica
but also happens here
by way of example in May there was a very brief news report on the Daily Mail site regarding Andy Coulson, I posted a moderate comment to the effect that I thought the phone hacking story could not remain obscure for much longer and that in my opinion the relatiohnship between the Murdoch empire and the Conservative Party was questionable and Mr Cameron's judgement was suspect,
about an hour later about 30 people (none of whom had the cajones to use their real names) had posted all saying pretty much the same thing ie that I was ignorant and there was nothing in this story and that I was "not welcome" on the Mailonline comment section
of course by July when I posted tot he effect "I told you so" I was met with a resounding silence
Basically you can sum it all up by saying Trollers are attention seekers. They are unremarkable in normal life so try to provoke people into reacting to them online by whatever means they can.
Yarp.

It has been suggested that at Tory HQ they have a team of trolls constantly scouring left of centre forums such as the Guardian online in order to ruin any half decent on-line debate.
@Sword Sparkle.
Oh the bliss, oh the pleasure caressing your ears.
does not surprise me
The Guardian comment sections seem to have been inundated of late, possibly due to The Times paywall driving these vermin out of their natural habitat (adopts David bloody Attenborough voice)
