Bear Cage

Post by Jake »

It's been a week of unpleasant anniversaries, 40 years since the introduction of internment in Ireland and the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall. I'm not of the opinion the world is now a better place, but won't go there, these are times for reflection.

I've only once visited Berlin, but fell in love with the place and must admit I got caught up in the whole 'tourist attraction' of the Berlin Wall, which I found rather an odd and certainly very disturbing experience, not least as there was an open air exhibition of holocaust photo's when I was there. I'm sure there will be a few of you here who have visited Berlin, maybe even some who went when the wall was still there, sincerely hope I go to Berlin again, great city, fascinating history.

"It's a bad time to look for forgiveness
It's a bad time for searching for home
The Wall came down in a thousand pieces
Now everybody's building their own"
