I've just checked Monochrome Set out on youtube, great band! I think I shall be making some purchases very shortly. "Jacob's Ladder" was a good tune. 8)

drums sound awful, it may be the mp3 quality loss, its badly mixed, quite catchy, obviously as ive already said it sounds a bit like an unorthodox advert for adult pull ups, sounds quite dated, i quite like your older stuff though.
Cnut ? I think you're mistaken, it's CUNT.

not the mp3 quality, I've just never recorded live drums before.
A lot of people had an issue with the drummachine so I was aiming for a more authentic sound, hopefully I'll get better at recording them. I didn't have a lot of studio time. The mix is my fault too, I've been working out the technology as I've been going along, I think I'm getting better.

cheers! 8)
I thought I'd try something new, but I'm still finding my way really. Really proud of the tracks i did in 2008/09. Deja Vu and This Song Asks A Question seem to be the least flawed.

so you recorded the drums your self ? to be honest a drum machine would of sounded better, id stick with the drum machine.

yes, but i am pretty terrible at drumming. I set the recorder up at one end of the studio, had the drummachne playing through my headphones and tried to get at least two bars of each major part recorded. it worked best if i did the kick and snare bits first, then did the hi hat separately, then a few fills and cymbal bits etc. then I used these samples and put them together on the computer. I haven't fully sussed out the EQ settings on there though yet so that's where the sound issues stem from i think. Then i used the computer as a sequencer and played the drum parts "live" into my recording equipment. It took quite a while but it was an interesting experiment. When I get round to doing another record I'll mic the drums up properly...

the first b-side uses a drummachine and sounds pretty good imo, that track is a lot more synthy and the intro is all programmed on an Atari ST
The second bside's rhythm track is made up of things I'd sampled (mainly hitting things in my kitchen) all put together on Fruity Loops. It sounds ok, but it was an experiment.

When I get round to making the third album proper I'm probably going to use a mix of all three of these methods. The last two records were almost entirely drummachine apart from a couple of samples here and there (just on Infect and Machine from memory) but I have aspirations of progression. it's still drummachine only for the gigs though.

They were one of the best live bands you could see....you'd always come out with a smile on your face. I saw them a lot in the 80s and still speak to Bid now and again begging him to reform the band!!! Have you heard the Scarlet's Well albums??... 8)

I wish I had seen them live.....

As to Scarlet's Well, I haven't listened to them but a friend recently told me about "The Dream Spider of the Laughing Horse" and other works. Sounds like I need to do some shopping :!:

Thanks for the tip.
