Re: Help Insanity has hit me!!! Runners advice please
I've just started cycling 5 miles a day, 'in training' for Hughs tour
That, and I've got my 2 yearly medical this time off.
Just about getting over the 'broken arse' stage .
Hope to be up to 15-20miles a day by the summer, it's very flat here and there are loads of country roads and canal tow paths to explore.
I would consult with someone who could work out a training plan for you, local running/cycling club should have someone who could help and also maybe think about seeing a 'sports doctor', who could help in your technique, making sure your not f**king up your back in the process.
Good luck in your endeavours, and don't forget to post if your looking for any sponsorship.

Good work
My advice would be
GET A DECENT PAIR OF RUNNING SHOES!!! - Get ones that match your running style - very important and if you're not careful you'll do yourself more damage.

Jim is right - it's called 'Gait analysis' and specialist running stores will provide it (some do it free in store) so do a search of local shops. DO NOT rely on some spotty oik in a casual sportswear outlet to give his opinion based on a coupla kick abouts in his local rec! You need shoes that will support you more than most people so take it seriously.
Now, considering you already have fucked knees I would have to say you are slightly mad however, if there is little chance of you walking again then you gotta take this chance and nobody could deny you that. But seriously ask yourself if it's worth putting yourself in a wheelchair over because with knees that are already fucked and hips that are needing replacement this could be a distinct possibility if you start running. Your feet will be the next thing to go, not to mention the possibility of back problems because running affects EVERYTHING! Personally, given what you say I would have to ask whether I could handle the pain of all that. As someone who overdid it last year running I can inform you that a brisk walk regularly is far preferable to being laid up unable to run or even walk for that matter. I couldn't walk for days last year due to over ambitious running and it sucked major arse and I regretted it hugely - if only I had taken it a bit easier I could have remained mobile to some degree and enjoyed a decent walk. Hindsight eh?
Of course, if you only have this one chance to do something you will never be able to do again then ya gotta do it. But........

If Dave was to use a Hammond L100 for just one more gig I'd die content.

I agree with Grinder - I'm concerned that you may be doing more damage but if it's shit or bust then go for it.

Reading this puts my relatively lazy b*stard bones to shame. I admire your insane spirit.
Boogie now, Dave!

As an ex-competative swimmer, with distance events it's your upper-half that'll take all the strain. The Sewer The Sewer wrote:maybe even enter a swimming marathon to raise dosh. It doesn't matter if I come last, it really is the taking part that counts.
There are floats available, that can help with boyancy of the rear end, so even if you do end up in a chair you should still be able to do this.

Maybe squats would improve the muscle? Obviously using very light weights
