Happy 10th Birthday
Been meaning to do this for a few weeks but you know what it's like.......
Some of you will know that the forums has been going a hell of a long time. In it's current format/state it was 10 years old on the 21st Dec (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1 - exciting first post!) and I know a few of you remember the forums beyond that date - In the VERY early days (around the late 90s) it was purely a simple messageboard - everything thrown down with no categories and simply the last post at the top - I think some of you actually preferred this!
From there we moved to a more functional "Ikonboard" forum - which is pretty similar to what we have now but it was very unreliable - I remember getting emails/txt messages from people telling me the forums were down at various parts of the day - got very frustrating. You have to remember that I didn't want to incur too much cost as I was fresh out of uni in 99 and had a massive debt over my head and I was already having to pay for the hosting of the site. We limped along into 2001 when I eventually made the switch to the more recognised phpBB forum as it stands today.
As I'm on a bit of a nostalgia trip here's some selected screenshots of how the site and forums used to look.....
Front page - notice the date. Index - All nice 90s web navigation News Page - all happening! Articles The gallery! Awful thumbnail generated pages for the gallery albums Videography The front page moving into the Naughties
There's been highs and lows but we've stuck around longer than a lot of sites (you could perhaps compare the forums staying power with the band!)
Anyway just wanted to mention it and thanks to everyone for making it what it is. I've some ideas that I want to work on in the new year (not the forums direct but sorting the "site" around it out). All the best!
Cheers
Jim

Thanks Jim. I know 10 years of Forum is also 10 years of work, so thanks for everything you've done these 10 last years.
All the best for 2012.

Re: Happy 10th Birthday
Big well done to Jim & anybody that has assisted at any time.
Only been on here for a relatively short time as just don't do Forums apart from this one.
Only did this after the Wonky trip having heard all about it
Up until then just spent my time waiting for The Rats Lair to update whatever was going on or the many emails sent out by Adrian over the years.
He was really good to me over loads of stuff.
Must say that this site will go on working & continue to grow because everyone gets a chance
Whats more Stranglers. net endorses this Forum
The two sites at times are almost seamless which is really good
Just need to hook up now with Strangled & the Family works even more
The Band deserve this site as it covers pre & post 90 equally
It is live & evolves just as the Band have done
RESPECT to Jim.

Many happy returns!
I remember some of those screen shots of how it used to look, can't remember how I 'found' the forum
Here's to the next 10 years.
