I liked Norfolk Coast as an opener. And Valley of the Birds was good too.

The best opener that I saw in recent years was Shah Shah a Go Go, that worked well but Toiler at Ally Pally was unbeatable.

Something Better Change or Grip or Straighten Out

would do me just fine but then again as long as its a start to a Stranglers gig anything will do

That Toiler at Ally Pally was so atmospheric - the lights panning across the crowd in the darkness , like a lighthouse beam , such a shame of the majority of what followed , especially as it was Hugh's last one . They played bloody well , but there was just no life in them that night .
Best openers - Grip would be a good one , 5 Minutes ( B'ham 79 Raven tour ) they did do as opener and as my favourite track then AND my first ever Stranglers gig - superb . There are loads that would be great openers ......Norfolk Coast was good as an opener . Have they ever opened with The Raven ?Tank ?
All quiet ..........

I also think that MSD is a good opener to have.

From the gigs I've seen, I thought Burning Up Time was a cracking opener.
Never say goodbye,
For we'll all be with you someday,

Grip was a good opener a few years back at Shepherds Bush Empire, on the 4240 tour I think
Save up and get my very own SLR
