Dave Greenfield tribute CD
I thought a separate thread for this might be worth having. My only two thoughts, as I haven't had time to listen to it all:
Was the recording of "Four Horsemen" really from Manchester? I'm pretty sure I was at that gig, and I thought they'd dropped it from the set before they got to Manchester. I recall hearing how they were doing tracks that hadn't been played live for ages / ever, and being disappointed that I'd missed them. Maybe I'm just thinking of "Ice".
The recording of "This Song" is fair enough, but I can hardly hear Dave on it at all, so it seems a bit pointless having it take up space on the tribute CD when there could have been something else on there.
On the plus side, at least the web address on the back of the CD is correct, my proper CD has the ".net" address on it, which appears to be defunct.

Listening to this currently. Peasant is particularly enjoyable.

I enjoyed listening to that. An interesting selection of live cuts, most sounding pretty decent, and it’s nice to have a couple of live versions of songs from the new album.
Peasant is great to hear. I remember seeing them play that on the Ruby tour in Bristol (when the set was still ‘a song from every studio album’, before they ditched almost all the MkII stuff) and Dave was clearly loving every minute of Peasant. He sang the whole song with a massive grin on his face. And I can’t blame him - it’s such a bonkers vocal who wouldn’t love being able to perform it?

Yes, as I said on the other thread - Peasant is brilliant on this CD.
It's very good overall and just lacking a version of Genetix.

Well much of the same from me on this tribute cd really,Peasant was great to hear,it's always been a real favourite of mine of Dave at his best along with Genetix.Seeing him over the years enjoying himself so much singing and playing this song, just such a great great song from the mk1 years, the best years.I will always remember chatting to him outside the back of an oxford gig with JJ who signed my live Hammersmith odeon 1981 cd sleeve, just a lovely man who will always be so sadly missed.

Re: Dave Greenfield tribute CD
Is it really Dave's best bits from all the years?

Re: Dave Greenfield tribute CD
Definitely not. It’s just some live recordings from the last few years of songs where he either sang lead or had a prominent role. None of them are career best performances by any stretch, but they’re all nice to have.

Ok let me put it another way, good version of peasant and WOB.
Where, bearing in mind this is a tribute to Dave, is a classic version of DBH?, English towns perhaps - the list goes on.
Two of the tracks are on the new album, FFS.
Disappointed doesn't cover it.

You couldn't put Dave's best bits on one cd.airflamesred wrote:Is it really Dave's best bits from all the years?
You need eighteen.

It's great that we've now got live versions of Bordello and Four Horsemen and Water etc released. Shame Genetix wasn't on there and maybe Ice and Midnight Summer Dream.
