Baz Poem...

Post by toilerinblack »

BAZ WARNE

R . E . L .E . N. T. L. E. S. S
from the rivers of Tyne and Wear

Baz was born in '64
From the North East part of England
A Sunderland man whose proud for sure
Of his heritage to front the Stranglers band.

Baz grew up on family music
Of The Beatles The Kinks and Elvis
Who will in time too play acoustic
And write the songs that sound so bliss.

He once picked up an electric guitar
When he was at school as a teen
Whilst studying science to go far
But decided to tour the American scene.

Barry Baz Warne in '83
Was the bassist for the Toy Dolls
His starting point musically
Who then moved on with all his goals.

The troubleshooters history shows
Changed the name of their group
To that now being Smalltown Heroes
With their only album Human Soup.

There was a second planned in hub
Atomic Cafe was the name in mould
But the record company pulled the plug
That spelt their end and time to fold.

So baz joined a rectro cover band
Called Seven Devils in '98
But soon was blessed a guiding hand
For an audition would be his good fate.

For in the Millenium year chance came his way
Of joining the band as a Strangler
Having supported them previously back in the day
Where his experiance now will be their anchor.

Baz joined to play the old and new
understanding the bands traditions
To play the parts that once was Hugh
But with his very own stamp and precision.

Baz first played live in Kosovo
cruising right through on a breaze
for all the songs were good to go
where he played his solo's with ease.

His first recording was Euro Live
His addition was the right change
In time he wouldn't duck or dive
From being their frontman on the range.

Baz began to steady the ship
As he sailed the band's direction
A toiler who was steering with wit
And heading with right perception.

Baz sang the lead on Suite XV1
Sharing the vocals with Jean
returning to four again pristine
bringing the rawness back along.

Baz is an Aires a sign of fire
Who should never be dismissed
Whose always raised the music bar higher
As a songwriter and as a guitarist.

He is a fan of Blackstar
For it's clarity and it's punch
With the feel of the telcastor
For it's dirty clean sound's a hunch.

Baz has a style that's quite unique
With his shades and a wolly hat
Of a tremor bar sound technique
With his hand he'd bend the note back.

By palm pressing his guitar body back
Whilst shaking the neck back and forth
With his Blue Peter badge apon his strap
who'd Tell a football joke from the north.

As a Sunderland man who prides on facts
of loving a pint with their footie
So proud to cheer on their black cats
With a sense of hummour so witty.

Baz has a love of a two wheel like
Where on his own he can ride
His triumph tiger explorer bike
Through the greens of the countryside.

With binoculars and fasination
And the silence of being a twitcher
Watching through magnification
At the spectrum of feathers a picture.

Baz sang of the man who comes around
One hundred million angles singing
His Johnny Cash acoustic sound
Another nice song he keeps on bringing.

Baz wrote a song with his brother
That was many a year ago
So beautifully written together
That not many would really know.

They called it Rips In My Heart
That was sung with heart and feeling
With such a sweet guitaring start
That has such a personal meaning.

Baz told the story of Lenard Cohen
A penniless man of 73
Forced out on the road again
This being his tribute from history.

The song was called Halleluiah
With an echoing twining sound
Flowing out from his wooden guitar
That was so nicely sung all around.

Baz wrote a song that's stood the test
Where the King sat apon his throne
It was his vow to call it relentless
A true masterpiece set in stone.

He sang of seeing his love today
For shes looking old but so am i
A line that makes him laugh away
whose all ears but never too shy.

He plays and sings without the fears
His adrelaline shines so bright
Whose sill the new boy at 21 years
Who always gives fans a good night.

There's a new song that's medallion
For his part that sounds so grand
Where the tiger in White Stallion
Is the jewel in the western hand.

It was never to be that last meet
In life's big saloon
But the stars will always greet
Those Stranglers men on the moon.

Baz's career has been so precious
With the Stranglers he's shown no fear
From the man who gave us relentless
from the rivers of tyne and Wear.

There once was a man called Baz
Who opened a bottle of Shiraz
He drank one too many
Until he didn't have any
And now he is having a wazz

Baz Baz, we know you caant daance
But on the guitar, we gotta be fans
Cause you play it right, with all your might
And deliver delight, every night

You give the songs the respect they deserve
But still sing them with all your verve
We are all so proud, that you came around
And rescued the band with the best ever sound

It's not just that though, cause we all know
That the songs you've written, have left us smitten
Your first album came in two thousand and four,
And picked the band up off the floor

A stran-ge-ler you most certainly are
The man in black that came from afar
There could never be another Hugh
But the band was made again with you

Now who's to say how things will end
For as you've said, time can never relent
But we already know cause we can see
That you're a big part of the legacy!

Well yours has much more info about. Baz and as I said earlier it's clear you've put a lot of work into it.

Ultimately we and many others have recognised Baz's immense contribution and as you say that's what this is all about, long or short!

Immense contribution? 4 albums in 21 years? I mean, he helped keep The Stranglers' brand going - albeit mostly as a live/nostalgia act - but outside of a couple of years where the band looked as if they may have had a fruitful second act, it's been pretty grim on the creative front.

Well I can't disagree with you on the lack of output, it's obviously not been great with only 4 albums but that is down to the whole band not just Baz.

If they wanted to make more albums they could've focussed on that more instead of the continous touring I guess..

But they chose the touring and for that Baz's contribution was huge, even if you think it was just nostalgia. His contribution on the 4 albums was also big, even though it was only 4.
