"he was in a Stranglers tribute band 20 years ago"
at the time we had Four More Heroes (originally Orange Alert) and that was it wasn't it? so it's Mick?!
There was also "No More Heroes" 20 years ago. They knew the Stranglers and also release a CD of covers in 1998

http://www.stranglerstribute.co.uk/index.cfm

"No More Heroes formed in 1996 in Nottingham. The band went on to play at venues across the UK with rave reviews in a number of international magazines and fanzines as well as radio interviews including the famous Lorraine Kelly interview on Talk Radio. The band eventually went on to support the Stranglers at Rats Rally in Devon in 2000."

Seems that the keyboardist Alistair "Sprock" Reynolds is now a full time photographer and JJ refers to as meeting the "Elusive One" in a studio, and I don't think "Sprock" worked in a Studio.

Here's a sample of them also:

It seems all the other "tribute" bands Mick "The Doc" Turley has been in.

Then I got tired of counting all of these blessings, and then I just got tired.

I think the "tribute" thing isn't the main band. I reckon it's someone in a band who occasionally dabbled down the pub playing in a covers band or something

Yes, and that main original band have done ok. Like Inspiral Carpets or something. But not them apparently.

There’s a new tribute band that have posted some really good rehearsal videos on Facebook. Based in Chesterfield I think.
